"Yes, global conquest, he was never quite the nice person in the first place," Maria continues. "Anyway, so I'm sure you've hear-"
"Not quite the nice guy!" I yell. "I see no reason to see him as evil, considering the fact that he loved me and was heartbroken to see me go!!"

Maria chuckles. "Then perhaps you can tell me why you left in the first place!! Was it to escape that constant 24/7 surveillance in your father's house? Was it to escape that sense of constraint that you always had tying you down? Was it to experience that freedom that you never and never will have?! You tell me Alexandra!! Did your father love you or did he just want you to stay because you look like your mother?! Did your father love you or did he just want to train someone to take over the empire he is trying to build right now?!

"How come your father never told you the truth?! Is that because he still regards you, a 17 year old or however old you are, a child? A child that can easily be manipulated to be right at your father's service?! If your father wanted to, he would have you right back at his feet with you apologising! He never sent people after you!! They went after you at their own free will because they know the kind your father is!! He let you go because he knew you would inevitably find your mother!! Then he would have her at his knees again!! Do you know why your mother divorced your father?! Do you know why?! Because she was an absolute critic of your father's stupidity and began to leak secrets to the public about his plans, in an attempt to get him voted out at the next election!! He is looking for her because he has never forgiven her!! He will have her executed!!!"

I remain silent, trying to take everything in. My father never loved me, my mother didn't like my father, my father is using me as bait to find my mother, he knows she is still around. But he never showed this.

What if Maria is lying? What if she is lying in an attempt to get me on her side? What do I believe: her or my father?

Then again, my father would lie to cover things up, after all, that is the type of man he is. He has most likely covered me up!

"You tell me Alexandra," Maria says," Does your father love you or merely keep you to train you like a puppet?"
I shake my head. "Who do I believe? Do I believe someone like you who I have only known for less than an hour, I do I believe a man who I have known my whole life?"
Maria rolls her eyes. "I have been trying to find your mother, my daughter. She divorced because she realised the danger she was in and went into exile. I believe she is somewhere here in Spain ad I believe that for the same reason, that is why you came to seek your so called freedom in Spain."
I nod.
"Back to global conquest," Maria continues. "Operation G.O.C, Global Ordered Conquest, is the technical name for your father's ambitions. It involves using military, mass surveillance and Government corruption to make the world answer to his one country. I believe that your father is making slow progress, already corrupting the Government of his allied nations."
"How did my father get such ambitions?" I ask.
"No one knows, however, it is of my opinion that your father was corrupted by the previous Government before him, who told your father to continue what his Government had started. Why do I say this? Because the previous Government was charged for corruption, every single member of the previous Government! Even the opposition was investigated and found to be corrupt, however, they are still in power because they bought their way back into politics!!"
"Bought... their... way... back ... into... politics?" I stammer. "How... how is it possible?"
Maria laughs. "Well, I don't exactly know everything, but all I do know is that your father is corrupt and ought to be kicked out of his office!"
There is silence as I take in what Maria has told me.
"And as for your role in this whole episode," Maria continues. "It is non-existent. You have been set up by that... that... foolish boy. I've forgotten his name..."
"Nick," I answer firmly.

Then it hits me.

Nick had my phone on the plane. He searched through it while I was asleep. He took hold of what information I must have had on my phone.

But I have no information. What did I have that I didn't know about?
