Strength isn't a compulsion or an epiphany. It isn't something that is born, it's something that is awoken. Over a lifetime this strength is awoken and tested by life, and nurtured by your soul.

You may not realize it, but you're being strong. Every problem that comes your way, no matter how insignificant, is only made small by your strength. It's your spirit that fights, it's your spirit that makes you to stay and it's your spirit that makes you win. Life is a collection of moments, a collection of memories, of battles fought and peace savoured. When life gives you reasons to cry, your spirit gives you a reason to fight. When life gives you a reason to dread, your spirit gives you a reason to hope. Your spirit gives you the ability to do what nobody thought you could, to smile when even existing seems a dreary task, to hope when it seems that the Sun will never be seen again, to see the rainbow that will be in the storm that is.

This is your strength.

Your strength isn't thunder. It doesn't roar. It's a whisper that even in its crescendo is silent to all but you. Your strength isn't lightning. It doesn't blind all in a moment of glory and then fade away to a distant memory. It's a candle that burns with a constant flame and gives warmth to those close enough to behold it.

Your strength is a seed. It needs to be nurtured but once it is, it's roots hold fast and go deep. The roots of faith go deep within your soul. It grows and it grows, and once it does it's existence is not a question, but a reality. It's bark is of hope that holds you up when you're ready to fall. It's stems are of trust that bear the fruits of love and the blooms of compassion.

Because strength isn't there in just existing, it's there in living. Strength isn't there just to hope, but to share with others the strength to hope. It's there in loving and trusting knowing that there might be a day when you will shed tears but having faith that there will be many more days to laugh with joy. Your strength is nurtured by the echoes of past laughter, tested by the storms of present troubles, submerged in tears yet it lives strong. And it will continue to do so. This strength is a gift to your soul from the immortal being that governs life on earth and it is the tree that gives shade and respite to the weary travellers that take shelter under it.
