Steven's Point of View
"Oh Oakie, Oakie, where are you?!" Steven called in a humorous voice.
"Can you not?" Eva asked with a frown.
Why is she such in a bad mood? Steven thought. We're inside a video game! Even so, Steven decided not to anger Eva further.
"I guess we should check that neighborhood," Ash said, pointing to the small neighborhood ahead of them. The four of them started walking.
"Oh! I know this place! This is Pallet Town!" Steven exclaimed as they walked through.
"That means Professor Oak's lab must be right over there," Paul said, pointing to one of the houses.
"Yeah. Let's go check it out," Eva replied. They walked over to Oak's lab.
After a few seconds of hesitation between the four of them, Steven knocked on the door.
Ten seconds passed. Finally, the door opened, revealing a slightly chubby man with bushy eyebrows and gray hair. He wore a white lab coat over a red shirt and khakis.
"Hello! My name is Professor Oak!" the man greeted. "Who are you?"
"I'm Eva, and this is Ash, Paul, and Steven," Eva replied. "We'd like to get some Pokemon if you don't mind."
"Of course!" Oak said. "More young children beginning their adventure. I love it! Please, please, come in!"
The four friends stepped inside the lab after Oak.
The floor was made of white tiles. There were several kinds of lab equipment along the walls, and a simple table in the middle. No one was inside except Oak and the four kids.
"Alrighty! We have three starter type Pokemon here, a grass type, a fire type, and a water type," Oak told them. "Who would like what?"
"I'll take the Bulbasaur!" Steven exclaimed, grabbing the Pokeball that contained Bulbasaur.
"How did you know what they were called?" Oak asked, confused.
"Um...my friend has one?" Steven tried.
"Ah. Okay, now who would like the fire type?" Oak asked.
"I'll take it," Paul answered. He took the Pokeball from Professor Oak.
"And the water type?" Oak asked Ash and Eva.
Eva shook her head. "I guess I'll take him," Ash said. Oak gave him the Pokeball.
"Now, you, my girl. We don't want you to have the same Pokemon as these three fellows. I have the perfect one for you," Oak explained. He went to the back of the lab.
After some rummaging around, Oak came back holding a Pokeball. "This contains a Pokemon called Eevee. Give it any kind of stone, and it will evolve into something great," the professor explained.
Eva took the Pokeball from his outstretched hand and stared at it in wonder.
"Alright, children! Let's go test out your Pokemon!" Oak exclaimed.
* * *
The five of them went outside.
"Okay. Now, to get your Pokemon out of the Pokeballs, you--" Oak started, but he stopped when the four kids threw their Pokeballs, and their Pokemon leapt out of them.
"How did you know how to do that?" Oak asked them.
"We've played this game before," Steven replied.
After seeing Oak's confused expression, Paul said: "It's an idiom. It means we already know what to do."
"Ah okay," Oak replied. "Well, I'll let you kids get to know your Pokemon. Good luck on your adventure!"
The professor went back inside his lab.
