Eight
Christmas time was near. I loved this time of year. A long break from school, gifts, time with family, and other things.
For Christmas, I bought Shawn a Black Ops II shirt, made him a hat, and made him a Shose picture thing. He got me gold nail polish, along with lotion, body spray, and body wash.
I was invited to go to the Lehigh Valley Zoo with Jen, Shawn, and Bill. I volunteer there, so of course I said yes. During this time, they have a wonderful light display throughout the whole zoo. Snow would have made it a better experience, but unfortunately, there was no snow at that time.
When we walked, I found myself awed at the sight. The lights looked fantastic, especially at night. We got hot chocolate and sat on hay bale sofas covered with tarps. They had a projector playing several bits from classic Christmas movies, and Shawn and I sat, watching those for a while. Bill and Jen had gone off somewhere else, and Shawn and I were talking about a variety of things. Eventually, it came to the fact of wondering where the older couple was.
"I bet you, any minute, they're going to come behind us and scare us." I said, looking at Shawn. I found myself repeating this a couple times.
You see, Bill was like an older brother to me. He acted like my own older brother, Matthew. I always teased him and he would always tease me. My famous teasing was either punching Bill or giving him a nugie. He often teased me because of my height.
When I lost my guard, about 30 seconds later, Bill came up behind us and shook our shoulders, trying to scare us. Both Shawn and I jumped, but I had such a late reaction. I must have yelped like five seconds after. We laughed about it, as we wandered around the zoo more. Eventually, Bill and Jen let us have time to ourselves, and I took Shawn to Louie's cage.
Who is Louie? Well, he's the Gray Fox at the Lehigh Valley Zoo. He's such a cutie, and my buddy. Every time I get a chance to go up to his pen when he's awake, he'll come up to the wall and watch me and wag his tail a bit, a smile on his small maw.
"Seems he's not out." I said, still looking around for him. "It can't be that cold for him, can it?"
Shawn looked at me weird. "Who?"
"Louie is not out. He's a gray fox. He's my little buddy, since I work at the bench right across from his pen. I do crafts with the kids, but when they're not around, I go visit him." I smiled, Louie popping into my mind. "He's often sleeping under the tree right here," I said, pointing to the pine tree closer to me. "If he's not sleeping, he's either running the border of the pen or climbing on the big branch there and jumping down. Sometimes, he even comes up to the wall of the cage to say hello." I turned to Shawn. "He's a cutie, and my favorite."
"Do all the animals have names?" He asked. I nodded my head in response. "Yup! They do! That's why I like this zoo. Small, and they name their animals. Now, I don't know any other names, as I'm limited to this area, but I want to know many more!" I was getting excited about the zoo. "I wonder what the names of the otters are..." I muttered to myself.
Jen and Bill found us, and we started to head out when I pointed out a Gingerbread House station. Looking at Bill, I said, "I bet I can build a better house than you." I pointed to the shack. "Oh really? Is that a challenge?" I nodded my head. "Yup!" When we purchased the stuff, it became a competition. Shawn and I vs. Jen and Bill. The lady running the stand would decide.
I took main control of decorating the house, while Shawn passed me things I needed or suggested different ideas. We ended up winning, and that concluded our night at the zoo.
---------------------------------------------
I had walked to Shawn's house once again in the snow. I had no ways of a ride, and I honestly didn't mind the snow. I layered up, and started to walk. Ever since I walked to his house the first time, I knew which way to go. I remember having to lift my feet like I was high-step marching because the snow was so deep.
As I said before, he better be happy I'm so dedicated.
We did the usual once again, video games, cuddling, making out, just in general hanging out. We had changed our cuddling position ever since the day of the Pep Rally.
The Pep Rally is always the day before the Thanksgiving day football game against Northampton, our rival. The band plays music in the stands. There are often funny skits, and I was part of one of them. You see, our Trig teacher, Mrs. Susko, was made the vice principal a few months into the school year. So, it was decided that Amber and I would do our guard work while Mr. Ascani and Mrs. Susko stood behind us, trying to copy our work. They were in older guard uniforms, looking like what a "flapper" would wear in the 1910's. Of course they wore clothes underneath, but they still looked pretty funny. That year, we had gotten out early due to snow. I knew I would be missing the bus, so Amber took me home. That was the day I walked to Shawn's in the snow.
Anyways, the cuddling position changed. Instead of being on his lap, I was laying at his side, one arm underneath his back and the other resting on his chest. I would wrap my legs around his as well, as that was most comfortable for me. His arm would be wrapped around me. On the day of the Pep Rally, I had fallen asleep in his arms for a couple hours, from waking up so early and dealing with the long day. He kissed my head a few times while I slept, and I found that really adorable.
Drama soon started up, so I got less time with Shawn.
The director, Brenda, definitely had some favoritism. Kerry, her husband, was cool though. Brenda was trying to make Drama like CAST, another acting group, but for the community. The reason why I quit CAST was because being in it for 5 years, I got one line. Crazy, huh? Plus, it was always the same people for the main roles. Plus, there was so much work, especially for a elementary/middle school kid.
Along with that, newbies in the whole acting thing got better roles than I did...It's a shame, really. I'm a good actor. I've been told that, many times. But explain how I never got the roles? Favoritism. The lead, Krystaglnn, I'm sorry to say, had a horrible voice. Many people of my family said that she was very whiny sounding. But Drama was so tiring.
Brenda brought us to practice on snow days. She also sometimes kept us til no later than 11pm on a SCHOOL NIGHT.
The shows soon came up. They were alright.
During that summer, I decided to not do drama any more. I got so stressed, and was so tired during that time, and my grades suffered because of it. Now, don't get me wrong, I love to act, but I wasn't going to be in an environment like that. I know better for myself, and have started learning better for myself. I will say, I have improved. It didn't help that extra people were still living in our house who caused me more stress, especially Lee. But Shawn was my main escape.
