Summer of 2015. It was a nice time. My birthday, Gileon's birthday, free time to do whatever I please, and just to relax and not focus on school work. I also wasn't working, well, babysitting this summer, though I would get a few occasional jobs here and there.
I volunteered at the Lehigh Valley Zoo, as I always did for the past few years. This time, they had a "Zoo Teen" program for volunteers, and you had to have 12 hours per week of volunteering. Eventually, you would get to help with animal presentations such as the goats, lorikeets, and kangaroos. I mainly did crafts with the kids, like penguin bracelets and Preston's Pad, but I still had fun, though it was really hot. The advisor, Timmi, who I was guessing was in her young to mid twenties, was amazing. She was really cool. She had 2 co-advisors, as I'd call them. Elizabeth and Carol, whom were both old ladies. Carol already had the white hair, but had energy like me. Elizabeth, she was hard to get along with, but I like her too. Depends on what kind of person you are, honestly. I also met some cool friends there, like Alexa and a few others. Turned out that Alexa went to the preforming arts school just like Morgan. Alexa went for dancing, compared to Morgan going for vocal.
As to birthdays, Gileon's birthday is 5 days before mine. Unfortunately, she didn't have her party until late July. I had mine in June, and due to the fact of not being able to pick a theme, I went with something simple: Hawaiian. I had an old maxi-skirt colored a royal blue, and I decided that would do. As part of the outfit, my mom bought me a new bikini, as I was in need of one. It was a mix of seafoam green and the royal blue, which made it very nice with the outfit. The past few years it was always pitch a tent in the backyard and have a water balloon fight, but since they were planning for rain this time around, we would sleep inside.
I got to invite more people than I usually would, due to it being my sweet 16th party. Girls would be the only ones sleeping over, as usual.
I was so excited when I heard that my good friend Aubrey was able to come; I hadn't seen her in so long. She wasn't able to make it to my party last year, but I tried to remain in contact with her for as long as I could. She had come a bit early, but I didn't mind. I'd be able to catch up with her. When she got to my house, we greeted each other with big hugs. "I missed you!" I said, smiling. She replied, "I missed you too, but don't kill me with your hugs. I don't wanna die young." I laughed letting her go, and then she took her stuff upstairs while I continued.
As I was finishing up making preparations for the party, she stood around while we talked and I worked. "Are you sure you don't need any help Rose?" She asked, trying to help me. She felt bad that she had come over early and wasn't doing anything to help. "It's fine Aubrey." I said, smiling and looking at her. "I appreciate the offer, but I got this. I'm almost finished anyway." I chuckled a bit, hoping she would get the signal that she didn't need to help. She was turning out like Morgan, apologizing and wanting to help all the time. I couldn't blame her, that's a good quality, for the most part. I was starting to become like Morgan in that way too.
Krystal had come next, Gileon following. I had said that they could come early if they want. Both Krystal and Gileon greeted Aubrey with hugs as well. The last time Krystal and Aubrey met, they talked about deep things, such as their lives and problems and such, and that was their friendship. Yes, they talked about normal stuff too, depending on your definition of normal. I liked having my friends get along. At my parties, they would talk for hours through the night.
As everyone got there, except Morgan and Shawn, as they could not come later due to Church and such, I pulled everyone together for games of sorts. We had the water balloon fight and played Balderdash. We also played a team game where you wrapped a mummy in your team. We played another game called Gift Grab, which is personally my favorite.
Gift grab is played by having several, small gifts, wrapped in the center. They could either be serious nice gifts, or gag gifts. We mainly went with gag gifts. But, you use 2 decks of cards. The one gets dealt out to everyone playing, while the other is drawn from. Say for example, the card is 7 of hearts. Whoever has 7 of hearts gets to grab a gift from the middle. Once all the gifts are out of the middle, you continue to draw cards. For example, 3 of spades is called, and whoever has that card can STEAL a gift from someone. Then whoever has the gifts at the end, opens them.
The final gift, a Hawaiian luau girl outfit, your normal coconut bra and grass skirt, I had won. But, since I knew what it was, I called Andrew and Patrick to do rock paper scissors to see who would would get the gift. They were both the joker kind of people, so I knew this was going to be good.
Patrick had won the gift. He opened it and an uproar of laughs occurred as he put on the coconut bra and grass skirt. I couldn't take it seriously, and it wasn't meant to be taken that way. Patrick had a Burger King shirt on underneath, with the chicken for the chicken fries. Then, being the goof he is, he danced around and everyone laughed. Andrew had made a comment, wishing he could of gotten it instead.
Soon Shawn got there and I was happy. Aubrey was waiting to meet him. Of course, he was quiet, per usual, but that was expected.
Then came the presents. I got a variety of gifts. The first 3 volumes of Ruroni Kenshin (a good read if you're into action manga) from Frank, a decent amount of money, and many more things. Shawn got me a bracelet and again more earrings, but I did not mind. They were pretty.
A chant started, I forget who it was from, maybe Gileon, Andrew, Amber, or Krystal. "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!" It slowly got louder and louder. Both of our faces were red. The adults joined in too. Finally, we did a quick peck on the lips and everyone squealed.
Then we had cake. I liked it, but not so much the icing. It was too sweet for me, but otherwise it was good. My sister had made it. It was 2 tier, and beach themed. There was a jello waterfall and everything.
That night, after the boys and adults were out, the girls made bed space in the living room. We all chose certain spots. Krystal put her sleeping bag next to mine, as that was expected. Patricia, Aubrey, Krystal, Morgan, and I were all in a little circle. Morgan would have to leave early but even so she and Aubrey caught up on lost time. Krystal and I took selfies, the goofs that we are, and then we talked, the five of us. We played a game as well, I can't quite remember it. Amber eventually joined in.
I remember bringing up why Aubrey was wearing the beanie around all the time. It had just come out, and I hadn't thought before asking. She seemed okay with my questioning though, and had said the trich had started again and joked about being partially bald. This leaded to a deep conversation between Krystal and Aubrey, which I missed because of falling asleep on them.
In the morning we had the usual breakfast for my parties, pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and it was all good. Slowly people left, I hugged everyone goodbyes, especially Aubrey, since I wasn't going to see her for a while.
I had a great time, and I felt better about myself. More cared about, I guess. I wasn't expecting all of them to come. I mean, Stephen didn't come, due to the fact he was in Europe, but I didn't go to his either. I had the beach to go to for a week, which I was so excited for, but I would be missing Shawn the whole time.
