I skipped over Valentines day, didn't I?
That's one of the best parts.
Shawn and I were hanging out a week or so before Valentines day. I started talking about wanting a bear, not a small one, one of the big ones.
"So I saw these stuffed bears in Walmart the other day..." I said. "They were so cute! They were about half the size of me, at most, and they were actually pretty cheap. Only $25. Man, I want one so bad!" I started obsessing over these bears. What girl doesn't want a big stuffed bear? "There were brown and tan ones, there was a panda colored one too!" I realized I was making a fool out of myself, and calmed myself down. I spoke once more, my voice much quieter. "I just want something to cuddle with at night that's not a body pillow or a small stuffed animal, you know?" I paused. "It's odd since I want something that will "cuddle" me back and feels like another body." I paused once more, still feeling quite embarrassed. I just thought I was an awkward teenage girl who still slept with stuffed animals. I would soon find out that I wasn't the only one like this, in fact, so many girls wanted giant teddy bears. I looked up at him while we were cuddling and said, "Childish, huh?"
Shawn shook his head no.
When Valentines day came around, we decided we would go over to his house. There, we would exchange the gifts we got for each other.
I bought a small, wood box. I painted it his favorite colors, red and black, and also made it marching band themed by getting a variety of band related stickers. On the inside, I put a variety of goodies. Many different candies, mainly kit-kats and pocky.
I wanted to try the pocky challenge with him. Basically, if you don't know anything about pocky, it's looks like a tan stick, tastes like a sweetened cracker. Then, about two-thirds of it is covered in a dried icing kind of thing. That comes in different flavors, chocolate, strawberry, almond, etc. When I bought it, they, as in Five Below, only had strawberry available. So, I dealt, though chocolate was the original. The strawberry still tasted good. Anyways, both people participating in the pocky challenge take opposite ends of the "candy" and take turns slowly biting off part of it. Then, at the end, where there's barely any left, the two kiss, and whoever lets go of the kiss first loses. It was ultimately a challenge for ships, and since Shose was so popular, especially with the band, why not do it? Then, if I won, I would have something to brag about with my girl friends.
When I came over to his house that day, a Saturday, I didn't bother wrapping the box or putting it in a bag or anything. It was too nice for a bag, plus I didn't want any of the marching band stickers, which were more 3D than just flat. They were like the kind of stickers you would find in a scrapbook. Plus, I didn't want a bag or wrapping messing up the nice black and red paint job or the music notes drawn on the sides. So, when I knocked on the door, I tried to hide the box the best I could. When I was welcomed in by Shawn himself, I was greeted by their dog, Snickers.
Snickers is a small dog. She's very fluffy, and mainly white with brown and black splotches over her body. Her eyes are a dark brown. You see, she loves me. Absolutely loves me. At first she was wary with who I was, but after a while I was able to pet her. Within a couple months of dating Shawn, when she was finally comfortable with me, she would get excited when I was there. So excited that she would piss the floor. Yes, she was still a pup, but it got annoying after a while.
So I didn't even get a chance to take my shoes off and she jumped up onto the couch, greeting me with a hello. I pet her once and then took her off the couch, since she was one for accidents. When back on the floor, she finally went, and Shawn cleaned the mess up, once again. He took Snickers outback and I pulled the gift into Shawn's view after he returned when cleaning up the mess and letting her outside.
"Here." I said, extending the gift out towards him. A smile creeped onto his face as he took it from me. His smile was so cute; his fangs are small, but pointed. So when he smiles, I find it so adorable. Reminds me of a little baby dragon's mouth, the fangs mainly. Whenever he smiles, and truly means it, his brown eyes sparkle with happiness. I absolutely love the boy, and he's probably smiling just like that when he's reading this now. :)
"Open it." I said, smiling.
He opened it and smiled, pulling out the derpy face pin that I had gotten at a recent convention. I smiled. "I threw some random stuff in there as well that I thought you'd like. Like that pin. And I had some spare strawberry candies so why not give them to you?" I paused as he continued to look through the box. "I hope you like it..." I said. "I know it's not much but I tried..." As he opened one of the boxes of pocky he said. "I like it." This made me smile and he smiled in return. "Thank you." He said. "Now, let me get yours." He said, going upstairs.
I sat down on the couch, waiting for Shawn to come back down with my gift. Hearing the footsteps, I got all excited. "Close your eyes." He said. In his voice you could tell there was a smile. Anyways, I closed my eyes, continuing to hear his footsteps. Eventually he stopped, and I didn't feel anything placed down in my hands, but instead next to me. "Open." He said.
My eyes were greeted with a stuffed bear. It had dark, chocolate "fur" and a cream colored maw. The inside of the ears was also this color, along with the bottom of the feet. The eyes were a brown color as well, more of a hazel color. It held a box of chocolates in it's hands. My expression once I saw the bear was filled with joy. He listened to me. I didn't have to tell him to get me it.
"How much did you pay for this?" I had asked. You see, I felt like people should not spend money on me, as I believe I'm not worth it. This bear must have easily passed the $25 zone, but even so, that is a lot for me. I like all gifts, but what really gets to me is when people make a gift. Whether it be something small like a bracelet or whatever, it makes me think they really care, especially if they spent a lot of time on it.
"Don't worry about that." Shawn said, consoling me. "It's fine."
I took the bear into my arms, hugging it, as Shawn went to get the card. It was a Valentines day card with Snoopy. It had one of those "put finger here" spots. When you opened the card, Snoopy was like cupid and "shot" an arrow at your finger. The card had said "Gotcha, cutie." And this made me smile. What made me smile even more was the fact that he put a school picture of himself in the card.
"Look at the back." Shawn said when I took the photo in my fingers. On the plain white back, was written: "So you always have a piece of me <3" I blushed even harder. I always told him I missed him, and man was he thoughtful.
I took him to McDonalds with some of the babysitting money I recently earned. I know, not that romantic, but all I had was $20. He got chicken nuggets while I got a chicken sandwich with bacon. We both got shamrock shakes, man they were coming out so early, but it was a like we both had.
When I got home that night with the bear, which is about half the size of me, I would snuggle with it every night. About a week later, I gave him a name. Kit-Kat. The thing that started sent Shose sailing.
