So today is your first class. Before you do anything, make sure you have a bag packed with your necessary items. Most students on their first day just bring their shoes in their hand so bring whatever you feel comfortable with. For my first class, it was during the summer so I would just wear shorts and a light t-shirt and some tennis shoes, and my hair in a bun. Based on your schools requirements, definitely make sure you have a simple black leotard and classic pink tights. Your shoes can either be leather or canvas, but the most popular style is canvas. Try to get to the studio about ten to fifteen minutes before the class starts so you can have a good stretch before class. Start by just sitting on the floor and doing a pike stretch. Then slowly work your way into your splits. Stretch out your back and then work on opening up your hips. When the class begins, you start off class at the barre with plies, going into tendus, doing ron de jambe, and other exercises. You then go to the center, starting with an adagio. At my studio our adagio starts off with three tendus, temps lie into four tendus back, then ending with a sous tenu. We then repeat it on the other side. After adagio we work our way towards allegro, and in my class we focus mainly on turns because that is a huge weakness in my level save for a few lucky ones.
