“Liah!” I heard Paige call my name outside after 2nd period.

“I’ve been looking for you everywhere! Where were you?” I asked finally relieved to be met by Paige.

“I wanted to give you your birthday present now.”

“Oh yay, what is it?” I asked curiously.

“Okay, now when I tell you, you promise you won’t flip out on me?”

“What the hell did you get me Paige?” I asked concerned. I was going to end up in jail, I could feel it.

“Are you doing anything tonight?”

“Noo”, I said.

“Wrong. You’re coming with me to Chase Lovelock’s concert!” My heart literally stoped when I heard those words come out of Paige’s mouth. She couldn’t have, could she?”

“WHAT?” I shouted. “Are you crazy?!”

“I told you not to flip out!” She responded.

“That was before I found out that you wanted me to go to MY dad’s concert! Oh my God Paige, you can’t be serious. Why the heck would you even do this?” I asked annoyed.

“Oh come on Liah, I know how badly you want to meet your dad. You tell me all the time. Ever since I met you, you always talked about him. You can’t deny that you want to go, even just the tiniest bit!”

“What the hell will my mum say? No way Paige. I’m sorry but that is way too risky. Mum would never let me!”

“That’s why you don’t tell her!”

“And lie to her? Paige, I don’t lie to my mum like that. Okay I lied slightly about Jake, but that wasn’t like this. This is crazy! If she ever found out I went to his concert, she’d probably never talk to me again.”

“Liah, breathe”, she put her hands on my shoulders. “Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted Ell?” She asked more quietly.

“Yeah, but”, I say looking away than back at her, “It’s just weird that I might see my dad.”

“I know how much this means to you, you should take the chance.”

“What do I tell mum though?”

“Just tell her we’re going out for dinner with the other girls and having a girls night out. It’ll be fine. She won’t know”, she said.

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure”, she said reassuringly. “Do you wanna go? It’s up to you”, she asked taking her hands off my shoulders.

I paused and looked down.

“Yes”, I smiled looking at Paige.

“Oh my freaking God, yes??” She asked excitedly. I just nodded. “Oh my gosh, Liah! It’ll work out fine I promise, your mum won’t find out!”

“Okay”, I laughed walking outside for lunch.

What was I doing? I’ve never lied to mum before. The last time I ever saw my father was when I was one month old. I had no memories of him.

That night

“If you don’t want to go, we don’t have to”, Paige said walking over to me as I sat on my bed dressed for the concert.

“No you bought the tickets and everything, i-it’s just, Paige I haven’t really met my dad and it’s just a strange feeling knowing I’ll be seeing him tonight.”
