Wednesday
Liah’s POV:
“Mum”, I called out and signed for her to come. I was nervous about introducing her to Jake but I’d eventually have to.
“Hey baby”, she kissed me on the cheek. She stood next to me with the biggest grin on her face. She couldn’t help herself. I elbowed her and she smiled less.
“Mum, this is Jake, Jake my mum”, I said introducing them to one another.
“Hi Ms Biggs”, Jake said putting out his hand.
“Call me Chelsea”, she smiled shaking his hand. “Liah’s told me a lot about you”, I stepped on her foot. “I-I mean it’s nice to meet you Jake.”
“It’s nice to meet you too”, he laughed.
“Well I’m going to go set up, I need to help Abbie. Coming Jake?”
“Yeah”, he smiled and followed me. I just gave mum a glare and she laughed and mouthed ‘sorry’.
“Thanks for letting me perform tonight and playing guitar for me Abb”, I thanked Abbie standing on the stage.
“My pleasure Ell”, she grinned. “Um”, she slightly pointed to Jake.
“Oh, sorry Abbie this is Jake, Jake this is Abbie my mum’s best friend.”
“Nice to meet you”, they shook hands.
“Oh you own this café, right?” Jake asked.
“I do.”
“It’s really nice.”
“Haha, thanks”, she smiled. “Hey Ell you ready?”
“Yeah, just give me a second”, I said before turning to Jake. “You can just take a seat anywhere”
“Sounds good”, he smiled and placed a kiss on my cheek, making my cheeks go warm.
“Ready”, I smiled at Abbie and sat down on the stool. “Hi, um I’m Liah Biggs and tonight I’ll be performing an original called ‘Stay with me”, and I hope you liked it”, I looked at Abbie and nodded. I let the music take me away.

I opened my eyes and looked out at the audience as they clapped, feeling a sense of gratitude. A smile spread across my face as I took in their acknowledgement.
“Thanks everyone”, I said into the microphone.
“Good job Ell”, Abbie spoke into the microphone. “Let’s give another round of applause for Liah Biggs everyone”, Abbie said leading the clapping. I just bit my tongue and smiled. “So Chelsea and I over here are going to be singing a song we wrote together called “Switch Hearts.”
“We hope you like it”, my mum smiled that huge smile which got bigger as she looked at me in the crowd as I took my seat next to Jake.
“You were amazing”, Jake whispered. “I never knew you could sing like that!” He kissed my cheek and held my hand. I smiled and sat back in my chair as mum and Abbie’s performance started.

Listening to the lyrics, I immediately thought of my dad. I wasn’t going to ask mum if it was about him, because I knew she would deny it and get annoyed. I sighed quietly in my chair and tried to hide what I was thinking and enjoy the rest of the night.
