I was first told to hate humans when I was just six years of age; I was a vampire for two years then. I didn’t understand at that time that humans were like rats that needed to be taught a lesson. As I grew older I understood more and more, as the humans chased us from our homes and killed many of us for what we were. To them we were the rats. In this world we can’t tell good from evil. Humans are disgusting creatures they infect everything like a virus. As I sit here now telling you this, humans are planning to attack us. I’m older now, but I still look like a teenager. We age slower as you may know from watching films like twilight or the TV series Vampire dairies, yes I do watch TV. I have to blend in some how. I even attend college, even though I’ve done it for so many years moving to different colleges around the country I’m in. I can hear them as they creep ever closer, their footsteps crunched on the delicate blades of grass outside. I hear the scrap of metal as weapons were primed or cocked as they say now. I just sat there in the house, my friends and family were here, and they heard everything I heard. We waited, all we did was sit there watching TV. If anyone looked in now they would just think of us as an ordinary family watching TV. But the footsteps approached still, our hearts beat slowly, our breathing slower. I stood up and went into the kitchen, and turned on the tap. Everyone thinks that water is a vampire’s worst enemy; think again. I took a glass out of the cupboard and put it into the waterfall coming from the tap. I turned off the tap and stood at the sink, my left hand holding the side and my right lifting the glass to my lips. I took a big gulp of water, I felt it course down my throat and into my stomach. I saw the laser dot flash on my chest, it rose until it was between my eyes. Nice move human. I walked back into the living room and sat down with my family and friends. They looked at me, as I sat down. I could see fear mixed with anger in their eyes. I had disobeyed the order not to move. I didn’t care; I wasn’t going to die here, not ever, not by a human hand. I sipped from the glass; we all heard the knock on the door. We looked and my friend Orion got up, he had placed himself in the deathbed. He had no family; he was an orphan when only eight. We found him and took him under our wing; I became his friend and a sister to him. I saw his left hand shake as it rose to open the door, he didn’t get that far. Bullets splintered the wood and entered ripping into his body; he fell to the floor dead on impact. You all think vampires would fade to dust or crack like china. We die like humans. I heard the military grade boot slam into the front door and the door hinges collapsed under the pressure. We all darted to our battle positions, we all saw the red dot laser aimers enter the room darting from one place to the next. Three people entered the house, their weapons held to their shoulders ready to fire on any one of us. I glanced over to my little sister’s place of hiding; she was too young to fight so we kept her in the safe spot where no one could hurt her. The humans crept further into our home; I could smell them. Alcohol and cheap cigarettes, I also smelt the cordite from the weapons. They would pay for my friend, I saw my father dart forward and take out the first person. The first person stood still and turned like nothing had happened, he trained the weapon on my father who now was trapped in the middle of the three people. They all open fired on him; I turned my head away and closed my eyes. It was horrible to see your own family die in front of you, I heard my mothers scream. She was gone in the instant she screamed the weapons coughed again and silence followed.
“Spread out, find them and kill them.” Said the first person. The other two nodded, I slide down the wall of my position silently and sat on the floor my hand covering my mouth. I wasn’t going to cry, I had to be strong. Stronger than the others if I was going to stop this; I heard more screams and gunfire. Then the deathly silence after, I kept watch on my younger sisters hiding place. It was in front of me, I saw her face full of tears looking at me. I heard the three people get together,
“No sign of the last two sir.” Said one, so only my younger sister and I remained.
“Shouldn’t be too hard, tear this place apart and find them.” Said the first person again. Silence followed, then I saw my younger sister move and my glass of water on her hiding place fell to the floor and smashed. I darted from my hiding place to save her; I heard a weapon fire and a burning sensation go through my right leg. I fell to the ground hard. My vision blurred and I saw my sister scream, she crawled over to my place on the floor in plain sight of the enemy. She shouldn’t of done that, she was only young, she didn’t understand like I did. It wasn’t her fault; I raised my right hand and stroked her hair. Now she was going to stay young forever the place she was going to go. Tears stung my eyes as I thought this. Is this how Orion felt with no family. It was awful to feel this way, I heard and saw the footsteps approach; it was the first person. Anger bubbled in me; I saw the pistol slide out of is holster. Then the muzzle pressed against my sister’s head. I saw the bright flash and felt the blood hit me; I watched as her body collapse to the carpeted floor with a sickening wet thud. I saw the muzzle focus on me, and then I closed my eyes waiting. Maybe I can see my family again, and people won’t hate us where we go after death. It didn’t come; I heard something else. A scrap of metal entering a meaty object, I opened my eyes and saw the blade coming from the persons stomach and then slice upwards and be pulled out again. The body of the person slumped sideways revealing a shadowy person standing, with an open hand outstretched. I took it and felt the racing heartbeat of a human; this person who had saved me was human. I stood up with the persons arm holding steady.
