"Dinner was delicious." Steve pulled Cora into his arms and kissed her. "Thanks for cooking. It certainly beats take out."
"Anything for you, Sweetie." Cora kissed him again, wrapping her arms around his waist and holding him close as she did so.
When they broke apart, they stood in each others arms, simply enjoying the embrace. Cora rested her head against Steve's chest and said "Thank you for asking me to stay with you."
He kissed the top of her head. "Thank you for agreeing to." After several more moments Steve pulled back enough to say "I'm going to take a shower."
Cora nodded and gave him another kiss. After he had retreated to the bathroom and she heard the water start running, Cora went into the bedroom and changed into her night gown.
It was a long baby blue vintage night gown with a matching robe. The bust was sheer, and the waist line was lined with white lace. There was also a matching robe. Natasha had helped Cora pick it out a few weeks ago, when the girls had gone thrifting.
Cora combed her fingers through her loose blond hair. It had grown out and was now the longest she had ever allowed it to grow. Her hair fell in waves down to the middle of her back, almost to her lower back.
Cora self consciously tugged at her gown and robe, turning this way and that. While she knew she was ready to give herself to Steve, she couldn't help but be nervous.
Sighing she left the bedroom pulled the door shut behind her. Going to the kitchen she poured herself a small glass of wine from the bottle that Steve had gotten from Tony. It was a sweet red, and the taste tickled her throat.
Walking over to the floor to ceiling windows, Cora looked out upon the city, lost in her thoughts. It was a sight like she had never seen before. Everywhere she looked she saw people and lights and life. It was so completely different from the small town that she was from, where as soon as night came, everything closed and everyone went home for the night. Unless it was the weekend of course. Then the bar would stay open until about 3 in the morning.
Cora watched as the cars zoomed by on the streets below, and looked out past the skyline at the dark sky. Never in her life would she have ever thought that she would be here. In new York City of all places. Staying in Avengers Tower for Christmas. And dating Captain America to boot.
No. Cora thought as she placed her hand against the cool glass. She watched the snow flakes twirling past, caught in the icy wind. Not Captain America.
She was in New York City, staying in Avengers Tower with her boyfriend Steve Rogers. A flesh and blood and bone man, who despite everything he had been through, had decided to trust her. Steve had let her into his heart and his life.
He wasn't perfect. Far from it. Steve could be moody and sometimes he would lock himself away for hours, hammering on a poor, unsuspecting punching bag.
Everyone thought Steve was the perfect soldier. Always calm, cool and collected. Their unquestionable leader. The man with a plan. And while that was all true, Cora saw past it. She saw the man beneath all of that. The remnants of the skinny artist who was shy and compassionate. Caring to a fault with a heart of gold.
"Hey doll." Cora jumped, almost spilling her wine as strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
"Shit!" She yelled turning around to face Steve. "I told you not to do that!"
Steve gave a sly grin and nuzzle her neck. "Sorry. It's a habit. I forget how quiet I am."
Cora hummed as he kissed her ear lobe. "Well I guess I can forgive you. This time."
