Rose Weasley's Point of View

Dear Aunt Hermione,
Thank you so much for recommending Hogwarts, A History. It was a bit outdated but I still loved it! I even missed out on my 27th 'Yay, Lily Got All A's On Her Report Card' party reading! Do you have any more books for me to read? I'm done with all the ones on my bookshelf. Mum, Dad, James, Al, and I send you all our love! Can't wait to see you in Diagon Alley!
Lots of Love,
Lily-Luna Potter

I stared at the letter in disgust. Who even has a party like that? I was so ready to burn it when Mum came in.

"Rose, darling. What are you doing down here at 6:00 in the morning?" My mother asked me. I blushed, stuffing the letter in my pocket. If Mum saw it, she would go on and on for ages about how perfect my cousin was. She never said it out loud, but I could tell she loved her more than me. It was because Lily was a miniature version of my mother. Always reading, using words way to big for anyone else to understand, and bossing people around. It was hard to believe Mum didn't just snatch Lily in the middle of the night and take her home with us. After several awkward moments of me staring at my feet, I decided to lie.

"I'm making breakfast for you, Dad, and Hugo. It was supposed to be a surprise." Turns out I'm not the best at lying.

"Rose, there's no cooking ingredients out. You came for the mail, didn't you?" I gulped. Finally, I gave in. I sobbed as she hugged me.

"Sweetie, why did you take your cousins letters? Uncle Harry said that she is wondering why I'm not writing back. It is breaking her heart."

I told her the whole story. How 3 months ago, I found Pig, our owl, holding a letter. I didn't give it to Mum even though it was addressed to her and stashed them under my bed. Ever since then I've woke up extra early to see if she's sent one. Now that I'm saying this, it sounds like a horrible thing to do to a 9 year old, but it seemed like a good plan at the time.

"Rose, there are things that you should value more than knowledge. Things like friendship and bravery. I do love reading and such, but I don't want you to make the same mistake I made. Just because you will have lessons and homework at Hogwarts doesn't mean you shouldn't try to make friends. Have fun and be kind to people, okay?" I smiled and hugged Mum again. She always knew how to cheer me up when I felt sad.

"Thanks for that." I whispered.

"Just looking out for you." She kissed my forehead. I realized it was 6:00 in the morning and that I was really, really tired. Yawning, I handed her Lily's letter.

"I'm going back to bed." I said sleepily.

"Good idea. We have a big day ahead of us."
