" thanks for picking us up Lilac" I tell my friend as I climb into the passenger seat of her dusty old green pick up track that still smells of hay and day old french fries. " No problem but mind interdocing me to your friend Anna?" Lilac asks me. " Lilac that's Alexandra she's my cousin, Alexandra this is Lilac she's my best friend" I tell the two. "What's you cousin doing here?" Lilac asks me. " remember that big plane crash?" I ask her as she backs out of the driveway. " yeah that was horrible" Lilac tells me. " her parents were on a business trip and were flying on the plane. So my parents are adopting Alexandra" I tell her. " so Alexandra how old are you?" Lilac asks my cousin. " Just turned 13 less then a month ago" Alexandra tells my friend." Revolution went into labor when I left" Lilac tells me. Revolution a gorgeous chestnut with four socks and a blaze is a six year old Australian bred and raced champion who's carrying a foal sired by Bloodless Day. " who's Revolution?" Alexandra asks us. " six year old champion Australian mare who's pregnant to Bloodless Day" I tell her. " Bloodless Day I know that name wasn't he that colt that won the triple crown a few years ago?" Alexandra asks us. " yep 13th U.S triple crown winner" Lilac tells Alexandra as we enter the gates. The three of us get out of the old truck and head straight for the broodmare barn. Mr. Piperson, Willifred and Jack are all gathered outside the stall. " got here just in time girls the foal was just born" Mr. Piperson tells us seemingly unaware of Alexandra. True to his word a large bay colt with a white sock on one hind leg is laying on the straw while his dam gets up. " I got to get to work" I tell everyone as I leave after watching the colt for a minute. " how much do you know about BD Alexandra?" I ask my cousin. " he won the triple crown, the breeders cup classic four times and the dubai world cup three times before retiring to stud after winning his fourth breeders cup classic as a six year old." Alexandra tells me. " I'm going to be grooming him so stand back" I warn her as I enter BD's stall and strap a dark green halter on his head. I tie him up to a ring and start grooming his dark coat. The now eight year old stallion is watching the activity going on outside his stall. "Alexandra go into the tack room and bring me his rug" I tell my cousin. "What does it look like?" She asks me. " dark green with white trimming and Bloodless Day on both sides" I tell her. Alexandra disappears and soon returns with the rug. "Thanks be careful he bites" I warn her as she hands me the blanket. As if on cue BD turns his head but instead of biting my cousin he headbutts her. I quickly put the rug over him before untieing him and leading him out of his stall. Like a king on prade BD handles the snow well and soon I have him in his paddock. As soon as I take his halter off he's gone. Alexandra seems exermly interested in all the horses. " so what are we going to call BD firstborn?" Lilac asks me as me and Alexandra join her in her families kitchen. " why are you asking me?" I ask her as I sit down across from her with Alexandra to my right. " pops said he wanted you to name him" Lilac tells me. " I think Nova might be a good name for him" Alexandra speaks up. " doesn't Nova mean a star?" Lilac asks. " yes but the word in Latin means Revolution or extraordinary." Alexandra tells us. " Nova it is" Lilac declares.
