" I don't understand why Nova lashed out like that" I tell Lilac. Dispite Nova's antics he's never done more to a person then nip occasionally and the last time Anna injured her arm it was from a fall. " he's always been dangerous Alexandra he's a nearly six foot tall, thousand pound creature who's a prey animal. I just hope he doesn't relize that he can harm us." Lilac tells me calmly. " he's been unpredictable at times but he's never actually tried to hurt someone expect for the farrier" I remind Lilac. " That's the problem he's unpredictable most of the time and if Anna had been even a faction of a second slower in getting her arm up like she did instead of being in the ER overnight she could very well have ended up in the morgue or critical care." Lilac tells me. " I'm going to go check on the mares" I tell Lilac as I exit the tack room that doubles as a lounge. My footsteps break through the silence like a steady drumbeat as I check on the mares. I pause momentarily at Rev's stall and the small chestnut mare and her week old daughter are laying down on the bedding sound asleep. Or so I thought intill Rico turns her head in my direction the snowy white bold face glowing from the faint lighting. Rico gets up without a sound and lazily walks over to me. " hey sweet girl" I whisper as I stroke her well built head. It's remarkable on first glance you'd never suspect that Nova and Rico were even related much less full siblings. Both are large and Nova who's already nearing 17 hands with no signs of stopping or slowing down growing is looking to reach maybe up to 18 hands and while Rico is only a week old she's just as big as the foals born before her. But Nova he's as dark as night mixed with blood and just as mysterious while Rico is a warm chocolaty brown who's open and friendly with everyone. After a couple seconds Rico snorts softly as I continue to stroke her soft coat. " your brother almost killed someone today and everyone says it's just a matter of time before he does kill someone yet I don't believe we're really understanding why Nova lashed out. I've known Nova since birth and he's never once been terrified or unsure yet today I've never seen a horse so afraid." I tell the gentle filly. Rico snorts and stamps a hoof impatiently at me. " I'm trying to defend him here" I tell Rico jokingly. Rico snorts before going back to lay down near her dam. I continue to check on the mares and I pause slightly at the stall to a average sized dark bay mare with no markings named Jeweled Treasure or Jewel for short is nursing her day old filly who like her dam is a dark bay yet has a strip on her face, a cornet band around her left hind leg and the most striking feature bright blue eyes. I continue on my way after a moment and I'm back in the tack room with Lilac. " was getting ready to after you. What took so long Alexandra?" Lilac asks me jokingly. " everything's fine I just had a talk with Rico cause she heard me and got up and I stopped to watch Jewel nurse her filly" I tell Lilac before my phone rings. " who would want to call someone at this times it's eleven at night" I complain as I pull my phone out if my jacket pocket. To my surprise it's Anna and I awsner. " shouldn't you be asleep?" I ask her as I sit down on the worn out couch. " No still waiting on the X-rays and shouldn't you be in bed and where are you Alexandra?" Anna asks me. " what makes you think that you didn't wake me up?" I ask Anna. " once your asleep your out. So where are you?" Anna asks me. " since your currently stuck in the ER I'm helping Lilac watch the mares tonight since you were supposed to help watch them tonight" I tell Anna. " how's Nova?" Anna asks me. " we're still sure what exactly happened but almost everyone thinks he just snapped." I tell Anna. " do you think he snapped? " Anna asks me. " Anna I know I've only been around horses for two years but that's enough time to know when a horse is scared or threatened and Nova I've never seen a horse that scared of something. It's my fault your in the hospital I should have relized if we kept trying he would lash out." I tell Anna. " it's not your fault Alexandra for one Nova he's nearly impossible to read, two he could have done a lot worse. Accidents happen it's part of the job" Anna tells me. " people don't die in other sports because of a accident" I tell my cousin. " people don't work with half ton animals in other sports" Anna tells me.
