The weather was particularly cold today, which matched my solemn feelings. I walked down the streets of Wisconsin, my hands in fists trying to conserve any sign of heat between each knuckle. Whilst I was listening to my music, I couldn't help but think of what Jack had to say to me. Maybe he didn't plan on saying anything, he just wanted to see me after the calamity that went on at the lake. I had no clue, and the more closer I got to Bridge Street, the more my mind wondered into a world of chaos, a world full of words that Jack could say that'd break my heart. Not that I knew what words would be heartbreaking, but I felt like it wasn't good news.
Finally, I arrived at the cafe, where I saw a tired looking Jack towards the back end of the shop. Manoeuvring myself past tables, people and chairs, I walked towards him. He saw me and weakly smiled, sitting up straight from his slumped position and leaning on the table. He had bags under his eyes, his loose curls all over the place and a ragged jumper. I liked it though.
"Morning to you too" I told him. He rolled his eyes, smiling at the ground slightly.
"I need to talk to you about yesterday" he said. I knew it.
"Alright" I answered.
"I don't really want to and neither do you probably, but I need to ask you some stuff and tell you things" he fiddled with his fingers, not making eye contact with me once.
"Shoot" I sat up uncomfortably straight. He looked at me, head tilted before shaking his blonde hair and looking down at the oak table.
"I like you, if you haven't noticed. And I thought you did too when we first went to the beach." He whispered.
"Yeah I did" I told him.
"Then why did you kiss Grayson?"
"I didn't, he kissed me"
"It's the same thing"
"No, I didn't go for it. But yes, I didn't pull back because I had still liked him for ages before and my mind just wasn't in the right state, I just took the chance that I never had and I'm sorry that I did that, I shouldn't have and I wish I didn't" I told him. He stared at me for a few seconds before smiling slightly.
"Good. Because I wanted to ask you on a date.....sort of" he told me. I couldn't help but smile, just nodding.
"Where are we going" I asked
"Well it's a house party, my cousins. He goes to Sherwood Academy in the next town and he knows a lot of people, including Grayson and Ethan so they'll be there" he faltered off towards the end, and my smile faded.
"Oh" I said
"If you don't want to go we don't have to, I just thought it'd be different to what normally happens on a date" he reached over the table for my hand.
"It's fine, we should go" I told him. He smiled a cheesy grin and leaned back. "Are you sure you don't like Grayson? I just don't want him to mess everything up" he asked.
"Not at all. I like you" I smiled, as did he. We both stood up and he followed behind me towards the exit of the shop. Once we got out I realised we were going separate ways.
"I'll pick you up at 6?" He asked. I nodded with a stupid smile painted all over my face.
"Alright, I'll see you later" he begun to walk off, waving. I waved back and soon he was gone.
What a fun night this would be.
