Finns POV

Hi, Finn here. I'm 17(just about) and have been battling cancer since I was 12. It took me by surprise when I ended up in hospital during my first week of secondary school. All I remember were the sirens as I laid down in a fetal position in a pool of my own blood. Scary,right? Then the darkness blurred my vision and everything went black. When I woke up my dad was holding my mum close to him while she hysterically cried. The doctor said I had lung cancer.

It's not all that bad though, I mean I get to see the nice nurses every day, who serve me food on a silver platter. I'm good friends with them and they keep me company when I feel down. Rose is my favourite though; she's known me since I was 12 so she knows everything I've been through. We talk about our favourite movies, books, Tv programs and she always tries to sneak me in cake from the staff room.

"Finn Finn." (that's what she calls me). Rose opened my door , winking at me as she pulled out a muffin from behind her back. " Rise and shine , youre getting a new roommate today, so be nice, okay" a small smile creeped across her face. My eyes gazed at the empty bed on the other side of the room. It hadn't been occupied in a few weeks.

New people would come and then they would go, never staying more than 3 weeks before they left. Leaving me alone to suffer in silence. I didnt really have any other friends, not because I didn't want any, its just that I never had the chance to. Everyone always left.

" What's he like then?" I made a grab for the muffin and stuffed It into my mouth in one swift movement.

" ooh eager are we, you'll see he'll be here in about 15 minitues" she paused whilst walking towards the door. " He's an interesting character" . Why did Rose have to be like that, oh well I can't complain too much, that chocolate chip muffin was heavenly.

I looked down at my blue PJ's and thought about changing, I was also wearing my favourite mask thing, well it wasn't a mask. I think they call it a snood, I'm not sure though because I don't go out too much. Mine was all white and I always but it on over my head, it kept me warm and smelled like vanilla. It always reminded me of my dog Jake, who was my best friend till I went into hospital. Mmhh Jake, he always smelled of vanilla and his brown fur was so soft and warm, like a duvet on a cold winters day.

 I really miss him. I thought he would never leave me but he did. Last year he got run over by a car, trying to get a ball for a little kid that had dropped their ball in the road. He was always so caring like that. That night my mum had to hold me as I silently cried into her shoulder as she told me what had happened. Sighhh. Nows not that time to think about that Finn! I slapped my face with both my hands bringing colour to my cheeks. "Yosh! Lets do this!"I yelled as I waited for my new roommate.

*15 minitues later*

I heard the door open and saw Jake. *internal face palm* Of course it wasn't Jake, but at first I thought it was. What I saw can only be described as a strange short being. He was a man , well I hope he was. He was wearing a brown dog onesie and he had the biggest eyes I've ever seen, they looked exactly like puppy dog eyes to me. I swear he actually looked like a dog.

"Hey man I'm Jake, seems like I'm sharing with you, pleased to meet ya!" His short arm shot forward. Wanting me to shake it. His name's Jake?

For once I was utterly speechless.

 

(A/N) Soo not much happened in this chapter but its only the first so yh :)
