Slade jumped and fell back, tripping over his own feet. I clamp my hand over my mouth."What?! What?!" Richard shouted as he ran in to the kitchen, followed by Sage.
"What happened?!" Sage said out of breath.
"Oh my gosh, Slade are you alright?" I run to him and bend down grabbing his arm to pull him up to his feet.
"Why did you do that? What's wrong?" He asked with concern laced on his face while holding a grip on me. Gosh, what do I say? Gina's the touchy-touchy kind so what if he starts having doubts about me.
"Gina?" He asked.
"I-I-uhm I saw a spider." I turn back to glance at the others and all I see is Sage mouth, 'nice save' with his thumbs up. I roll my eyes to face Slade again with a confused look on his face.
"A spider?" He let go of me and let his hands fall to his side.
I hold my breath, "Yeop, it was on the kitchen bench but it's gone now so no worries." I let out a fake chuckle.
His face relaxed abit, "Oh okay, but where's Amara? She's supposed to clean around here so that there aren't any spiders or even rats lying around."
"Rat?! Where?!" I turn back to see Sage on the kitchen bench, searching the ground for any signs of rats. My right eyebrow rose.
"Is he alright?" I ask Richard, pointing at Sage.
Richard smirks, "He's afraid of rats." I smile evily. I know one of his weaknesses now, besides his weakness of hiding his sad emotions like when Slade was in hospital.
"Guys, where's Amara? She seems late. I thought I told her to always make it on time." Slade stared into outer space or in his case, darkness.
"Uh. She can't come today or for the next few weeks." I replied.
His eyebrows knit together in concern, "Why? She knows that she has to confirm it through me."
"Actually, I'll call her now so you can talk to her but right now, I have to go to the bathroom. Sage call her, I meant Richard because Sage seems to be having problems at the moment." I look up to see Sage still on the counter being a pussy.
I look at Richard and gesture for him to call my phone. He lifted his eyebrow at me. I huff as I mouth 'please'.
"You owe me one." He whispered as he took out his phone.
I ran outside to my car where my phone was. I got to my car and the phone started ringing. I took a deep breath and answered the phone.
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
"Amara, it's Slade. I was told you can't make it for a couple of weeks. Can you tell me what is happening?" Slade asked me and I tried to come up with an excuse.
"I uhm, I have to attend my Grandpa's funeral. Yeah, he passed away so I'll be attending his funeral soon but now, I'm getting ready for my flight to California." I reply smoothly.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Well, my condelences to you and your family. So when are you coming back to work? I'm sorry for speaking out of respect for the loss of your family member but I'm having a situation and I'm going to be needing you to help me with my paper work." He asked. Damn, what now?
"Oh uhm. I was wondering if you would let me take a few weeks off? Uh, Gina told me that she will be taking over me. She even suggested it herself." HA! I'll be using Gina as an excuse now.
"Is that so? Giinnaaa!" He called out. Oh shit.
"Okay well, Slade I really have to go. My... Cat just spewed up on the floor. Bye!" I hung up an quickly ran in the house. I close the door behind me and calmly walked to Slade.
