park sooyoung (joy) and kim yerim (yeri)

yerim stared at the algebra test, frustrated. she had forgotten to study; she had piano lessons the previous day. if only you were here, yerim thought, distraught. she looked up to the teacher's desk, seeing sooyoung peeking at the test answers. she looked like she was memorizing them. she suddenly ran to her, pointing out the correct answers.

yerim frowned, but put down the answers anyways. why isn't the teacher yelling at sooyoung for cheating? fifteen minutes later, the teacher collected the tests. yerim turned to sooyoung to tell her thank you, but she was already gone.

algebra was yerim's last class of the day. yerim usually walked home, given that her home was only five minutes away from the school anyways. she fiddled with the fabric on her schoolbag, still carrying the same smile she had during the algebra test.

sooyoung ran to her from behind, falling into stride with her. "hey, yerim!" she chirped, taking the lollipop out of her mouth. "i knew you didn't study, so i gave you the answers. that's what friends are for, right?"

cheating was something yerim did not want on her record. she's a goody two-shoes, she admits it. "sooyoung-ah, thank you for helping me." before sooyoung could chirp back a happy response, yerim cut her off. "but i don't want to go back into the class knowing i cheated."

"then skip classes," sooyoung said, popping the lollipop back into her mouth.

"what?!"

"skip classes. who needs algebra anyways?"

yerim stopped walking, turning to sooyoung. "you're kidding, right?" before sooyoung could respond, yerim ran into her house in disbelief.
