Learning to Love Right Chapter 5

*Caroline's POV

After dinner Niklaus fled and I said goodbye to Matt. Rebekah showed me around the village as promised and then we returned to her hut.

"You will stay in here with me, Niklaus, and Kol" Rebekah said showing me my bed.

"Thank you" I said sitting on my bed still thinking about Niklaus.

"Ok Caro as long as we're alone let's have some girl talk. Did you see how jealous Nik was? He looked like he wanted to tear Matt to pieces" Rebekah said excitedly.

"I know. What does this mean"? I asked.

"It's obvious that he has feelings for you Caro. Goodness girl keep up" Rebekah said and we both laughed.

"Bragging about me again are we Bekah" Kol said walking to his bed.

"Shut up Kol. It's none if your business" Rebekah said at him angrily.

"Well goodnight Bekah, Caroline" he said lying on the bed and snoring almost instantly. Then Niklaus walked in not saying anything and passed out on the bed instantly just like Kol.

Rebekah sighed "such boys" she said and we both laughed when they both snored after she said that.

"G'night Caroline."

"Night Rebekah" I said as I drifted into my dreamland with Nik.

I woke up when I heard crunching under someone's foot steps. Looking around I noticed Nik missing from his bed. I wrapped my blanket around me and stepped out of the hut just as Niklaus stepped into the woods.

I followed him and found him walking into a clearing with a small hut. Elijah walked out buttoning his shirt and smiling. Tatia appeared smiling too. Then I realized what happened.

Nik's face showed the hurt he felt. I wanted to slap Tatia and hold him until he wasn't hurt anymore. Then he stalked off but Tatia didn't seem to notice.

Again I followed him back into the forest. He sat on a fallen tree. I hesitated but then came and sat down taking his hand.

I was surprised when he didn't pull away.

"I'm sorry" I murmured so soft I barely heard myself.

"I don't need your pity" he lashed out pulling away "you don't know me."

"I don't need to know you to know how it feels to have your heart broken" I spat back and stormed away. How could he say that I thought. It brought up memories I thought I'd buried away.

Tears streamed down my face so instead of returning to the hut I ran until I reached a river. Sitting by the bank I cried until my tears couldn't come anymore. Then I eventually fell asleep left with my past nightmares.
