After a long bus ride, I walk in the red main door of my "school." It's so small that it's basically just a house. With tiny rooms for classes.
I look at the timetable for the day that is stuck to one of the doors.
My first class of the day.
English.
With a teacher named Michael.
Wonderful.I walk into Room 2, where I sit waiting for Michael to arrive. I open a notepad and grab a pen, and begin doodling.
The door opens, and Michael walks in with a textbook. He sits right in front of me.
"You must be Julie. I'm Michael."
He holds out his hand and I shake it.
"Today we will be doing a comprehension question. Are you familiar with these?"
I nod my head at him. He points to a question and I begin writing. I've always loved English.*end of first class*
I look at the next subject on my timetable. Music. Great. (Note the sarcasm.)
The teacher I have for music is s girl named Leah. A young teacher who couldn't possibly be any more than 25, walks into Room 4.
She greets me.
"Hello Julie. I'm Leah. It's lovely to meet you."
"It's also lovely to meet you, Leah."
Leah pulls out six pages stapled together and the heading of the page reads
"Basic Music Theory."
I've always loved listening to music, but I hated learning the theory of music. I found it extremely boring.
The 30 minute class drags on and I'm having a very hard time focusing.
Leah seemed to move at 100 miles per hour while explaining the bass clef, the treble clef, the circle of fifths..my mind wandered off."Are you having trouble with this, Julie?"
"No." I lie.
"Can you keep up with everything okay?"
"No. It's very difficult for me, Leah. I'm sorry."
"Well, Julie, this is the speed I always teach at, because we have a lot to learn. Do you think you would be able to concentrate better if you tried this class with a different teacher?"
I look up at her.
"Well, I would like to try that, please. If it doesn't work, I can always join you again?"
Leah smiles.
"Of course."
