Part Twenty-Three:
Zoe hadn't seen Charlie since they had found out Silena was dead. She had no idea where he was, or where Ethan was either.
Ethan had seemed really distraught after speaking about Silena's death. Zoe thought it must've been like her and Charlie - if Charlie had've died on the quest, she would've hated having to speak about it, but the thing with Ethan was that he never let anything go. Just like the song (which he hated) he needed to let some of the stuff go. That argument he had with Zoe about blue when he was five? Never forgot. The one about how he didn't like Hayley with Lily? Still fuming.
"Listen, Zoe, I need to talk to you." Zoe turned around to see Sammy approaching her.
"Yeah? What about?" Zoe replied worriedly.
"It's about Jaz." Sammy lead Zoe towards a corner of the room away from the music and partying. "Zoe, when Jaz and I left the maze, we found some demigods, nymphs and satyrs trapped in a cage. I think one of them was Silena's dad, but also, there was Millie and Liam."
Zoe gasped. "What happened to them? Where are they?"
"They're back at Camp Half-Blood now, but not Jaz." Sammy paused and took in a deep breath. "Jaz ... she was stabbed in the back with her sword after she got disarmed by a Dracaena, and she didn't make it."
Zoe's heart almost stopped. Jaz was ... dead?
"Are you sure?" Zoe asked.
"I watched her die." Sammy looked down. He didn't cry, but Zoe could see the regret and sadness on his face. "Her last words were: 'tell Alex I'm sorry', but what for?"
Zoe sighed. "Her and Alex got into a fight. I assume that Jaz meant that she was saying sorry to Alex."
"Oh." Sammy glanced back to the party. "Do you mind if I...?"
"Go ahead." Zoe wanted to be alone.
As Sammy headed off, Zoe concentrated with all her willpower on Jaz. And then there she was; Zoe's best friend, standing right in front of her.
"Hey Zoe." Jaz said.
"Listen, Jaz, I was wondering ... you died, right?" Zoe asked.
"Yeah, duh, I'm with Silena in the Underworld right now." She rolled her eyes.
"Well, I think that one of my powers as being the goddess of Heroes is that I can create an immortal army, like the Hunters of Artemis. You'd remain in the Underworld, but when I needed you, you'd be summoned to me."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Back up." Jaz held up her hands. "You're saying that you want me to join your army?"
"Yep." Zoe grinned. "Tell Silena that she can come too."
"Well then. I guess I'll accept this kind offer." Jaz bowed to Zoe and grinned. "Lady Zoe."
"Jaz, it's just Zoe." Zoe sighed.
"Hey Zoe," Michael greeted, walking up to Zoe. He had his head bowed and looked sad and worn out. "I was wondering if you heard about my sister. Sammy told me what -" Michael stopped talking. He looked up at Jaz in shock. "Jaz?"
"Why hello there, Lord Michael." Jaz bowed. "And also, I'm not your sister anymore. We're technically not related."
"You're my niece." Michael grinned. "But I'd say that Aphrodite's genes stretch far enough so that we're not really related."
"Are you implying that you don't want me to be your sister or niece?" Jaz raised an eyebrow and Zoe watched in confusion as Michael blushed and looked down.
