Part Sixteen:
Zoe's legs were numb. She and Charlie had been walking down many different corridors for at least half an hour but still hadn't found an exit. Several times they came across dead ends and had to go back; almost as if they were in a maze.
Charlie was beside her. Even in the dim light, Zoe could still make out his blonde hair and sparkling brown eyes. "Look!" he said suddenly, and Zoe snapped her gaze away from him to see that he was pointing towards something ahead of them.
It was an exit; the light at the end of the tunnel. Zoe sped up and hurried towards it. When she stepped out into daylight, it took a moment for her eyes to adjust before she realised where they were - a corridor of a school.
Zoe's eyes widened, and she heard Charlie say something beside her, but she wasn't listening. Because walking down the hallway towards them, a small group of people crowding around him laughing and chatting, was Michael.

Sammy blocked the dracaena's sword strike and drove his spear through her. He watched Jaz stab the second one before turning to the Hellhound which was about to pounce.
Sammy dodged another attack and as a Hellhound soared past, impaled it with his spear. He then batted another one away into Jaz's sword which killed it instantly before whacking another one over the head. Two more Dracaena came at him and he knocked the two snake tail legs out from beneath one and stabbed the other. As the first one was getting up, he rammed her over the head with the butt of his spear.
Panting slightly, Sammy looked over to see that Jaz was battling five Empousa and three Dracaena. Her sword gleamed as purple flames chewed it up, but Sammy didn't have time to watch. He hurried over to the cage and managed to cut one of the bars in half with the sharp point of his weapon. The nearest prisoners rushed out and Sammy stepped away to let them pass.
One man stumbled out, sword raised, and attacked the nearest Dracaena. A satyr and a nymph around Sammy's age hurried over to Jaz to help her. Sammy was just pulling the last girl out of the cage when a scream tore through the air.
Everyone's head turned to look at the girl who was lying on the ground, her own sword protruding from her stomach. The cyclops hovering above her was quickly finished off by Sammy as he hurried over to where Jaz was lying on the ground, the nymph and the satyr - Millie and Liam, was it? - kneeling over her.
Sammy knelt over Jaz. Blood splattered her purple tee-shirt and her usually bright multi-coloured eyes were foggy and glass-like. Her breaths heaved and she looked up at Sammy as he pulled the blood-coated sword from her stomach. It was evident that the wound was fatal. Even ambrosia and nectar wouldn't be able to heal it.
Jaz's mouth dropped open and she gasped, her breathing ragged. "Tell Alex..." she choked, gazing into Sammy eyes. "I'm sorry." And then with one final jarring, breath, Sammy watched Jasmine Grace's life fade away.
