Heartache And Pain

(Danielle's POV)

"I'm a demon." he informed me, expression deadly serious.

My first instinct was to laugh in his face but when his eyes flashed crimson, I soon realised he was telling the truth...

I took a deep breath as my vision became blurry, "You mean... A demon as in--"

"As in an evil creature who murders human beings by sucking out their soul... Correct." he finished for me with a smirk.

Stumbling backwards I couldn't help but feel a little safer when I felt Roxxi's hand on my back, supporting me as always... She was truly the best friend I could ever ask for.

"I think you should go..." I said in a small voice, "And don't come back."

Hurt flashed across his flawless face, "Please Danielle... Don't do this. Let me explain?" he pleaded.

Shaking my head I stood upright, "Just go." I ordered, hoping he couldn't hear how much I wanted to cry at that moment.

Loki reached out to me, "Please?"

"Goodbye Loki..."

He just stood staring at me for what seemed like forever before he finally disappeared, making me wander if he'd really been there at all... But the ache in my chest told me he had.

The days after that seemed to pass slower than ever before... Dragging on at an excruciatingly slow pace as I sat on my bed, staring out of the window as the rain just kept on falling.

Roxxi would come in every few hours with the excuse of bringing me food, or something to drink... But I knew she was just checking up on me.

"You haven't eaten anything for two days Dani..." she said quietly, worry colouring her tone.

With a shrug of my shoulders I pulled my legs up to my chest, not even blinking when a flash of lightning streaked across the grey sky.

"Danielle." my best friend snapped which caused me to look up at her, "If you love him, go after him."

I shook my head and turned back to staring out of my bedroom window, "I don't want to love him." was all I said, my voice hoarse from not talking for so long.

"Why not??" she asked as she sat next to me.

"Roxxi..." I sighed deeply, "Roxxi, he's a murderer. He's killed people."

My best friend seemed to shift uncomfortably as if what id said had been aimed at her, and then I realised exactly why...

"I've killed people... Does that mean you don't want to be my best friend??" she asked seriously.

I shook my head, "No, of course I want to be your friend. That was ages ago, and wasn't really your fault..."

Roxxi came to crouch down in front of me and looked up at me with her green eyes sincere, "If you can forgive me, you can forgive him Danielle." she murmured.

Realisation suddenly hit me.

If there was a way for Roxxi, a vampire, to survive without killing innocent people then there must be a way for Loki to do the same...

But would Loki even want to speak to me now? After he had revealed his darkest secret and I'd rejected him, not even pausing to let him explain.

In truth, I felt awful...

"Of course he will want to see you again Dani... He's your soul mate." Roxxi suddenly informed me, smiling weakly.

My eyes widened in disbelief, "I thought you promised to never read my mind." I reminded her, feeling rather violated.

"Yeah..." she whispered, "I never had a reason to until recently."

Understanding she had only done it out of worry and needing to know, I launched myself at my best friend and hugged her tightly...

"Thank you Roxxi..." I sniffed as a tear of joy rolled down my cheek. When we released each other I gave my best friend a determined look, "I'm gonna go find him."

She nodded, "Good luck Dani." was all she said, but her smile told me she would be there if I needed her.

With one last look at Roxxi I opened my bedroom window and leapt out into the rain, shifting into my wolf as I landed lightly on the garage roof where I could faintly smell Loki's unmistakable scent...

"Take care my friend." I heard Roxxi say.

She didn't say it loudly, but she didn't need to... I knew the meaning behind those words and kept them with me as I vanished into the trees.
