It's been a month since the incident, Abby barely talks anymore and no one knows why, not even Tony. Abby hasn't left her room the whole time.
At first she just stayed in bed and laid there. No one heard her move, the only noise would be the shower or toilet.
Abby wouldn't eat or see anyone. After the first week, Tony tried talking to her but Abby kept the door locked.
Peter stayed in the basement healing and worrying about Abby. After the incident Charlie demanded to stay in the Tower with Abby. And after the first week Charlie was the only one who could get into Abby's room.
Every day Charlie'd bring her something to eat, pull up the covers, and ask if she wanted to see Tony or Peter.
And every day she'd say no. Every time Charlie told Peter and Tony that Abby didn't want to see them it crushed them. Finally Tony couldn't stand it anymore, he walks down to his lab. Where Bruce and Cap were helping Peter with physical therapy.
Tony busts into the lab and says,
"That's it I can't take it anymore! Peter, Cap. The three of us are going back to that place and we are going to figure out what the hell happened to Abby. And no Steve we're not going to plan anything out we're just going. Come on."
Cap and Peter don't say anything, they simply nod at one another and follow Tony. Once they reach the lab, the memories of Abby laying on the ground hit Peter like a ton of bricks. He stands there frozen as he relives the horrible memories.
Cap walks up to him, places a hand on his shoulder consoling him, as they continue to look for the source of Abby's pain. Tony looks and looks but he couldn't find anything. It isn't until Cap see's something sparkle on the ground, that they find hope.
Cap squats down, picks it up and fiddles with it between his fingers. Cap stands back up and walks over to Peter, Peter looks at it. At first he didn't recognize it but then something hits him, a memory of Abby fiddling with something exactly like it. He grabs it out of Cap's hand and runs over to Tony and asks,
"Isn't this Abby's?"
Tony looks and then it hit him too as he says, "Yes, its smashed but it's hers. She was wearing it the day I meet her, I never asked what it was or the significance. But it's hers."
"You never asked her?"
"No. Why?"
"Well I did. This is the last thing she ever got from her parents, before they abandoned her."
"Oh god."
"What?"
"She must have seen it. I can understand if she was upset for a day or two but this...this could only be because she saw it."
"Tony? See what?" Cap asks.
"Cap you know she's a hacker."
"Wait, what? Abby? Possibly the sweetest girl I've ever meet is a hacker?" Peter says, star struck.
"Yeah she hacked into S.H.E.I.L.D the day after I adopted her." Tony says, calmly.
"Wait she's the one who hacks into S.H.E.I.L.D? Nevermind what did she see?" Cap asks.
"Three months ago Fury told me something happened to her parents."
"What happened?" Cap and Peter ask.
"They were there, in New York. They were on their way to get her, when the Chitauri attacked. They were some of the first victims of the attack, S.H.E.I.L.D found them and identified their bodies. I still don't know why Fury never told me till now but what if that's why she's so devastated."
Cap looks confused for a moment before stating, "But you told her they died years ago, in Las Vegas. Why would you do that Tony?"
"To protect her! If Abby had known then that her parents were on their way to get her and take her home she would have shut me out or run away or something worse!"
"But lying to her isn't going to do any good either!" Cap shouts back.
"I know. I know, but what else was I supposed to do? To think that a day after I adopted Abby her real parents were killed coming to get her. Abby would have blamed herself, I know she would have there was nothing else I could do."
The three stand there in silence, it isn't until Peter speaks that a breath is taken by anyone.
"Maybe Abby does know and maybe she does blame you, but she's not just being pissed about this and being herself. She's shutting you out so the only way to know if she's seen this and knows the truth is by coming straight out and asking her."
Tony takes a minute to think about this before saying, "You're right, she might hate me but it's the only way to know for sure. Come on."
"Wait I didn't mean right now." Peter calls out after him but it's too late Tony's already on his way home.
Peter turns to Cap and says, "You deal with that every day?"
"Yup, every day. On every mission." Cap lets out a breath before continuing, "Come on, if he's going to ask her about this you'll need to be there for her."
They rush after Tony but by the time they get back to the Tower it's too late. Abby's screaming at the top of her lungs, Tony and Charlie are trying to calm her down, while the rest of the team is standing there in shock. Peter runs in and simply pulls her into a hug, no one moves, not even Abby.
Peter starts stroking the back of her head, trying to keep her calm. Peter leads her down to the floor, they sit there, ignoring the world around them. Abby cries into his shoulder and whimpers,
"They were here. They were going to take me back. We were going to be a family again, just like before."
"Abby. Abby, please look at me."
Abby looks up at him, her eyes red from crying.
"Abby, if your parents had taken you back then you never would have been adopted by Tony Stark. You never would have meet the rest of the Avengers. And you never would have meet me, I think that's a win."
"But,"
"But nothing. Abby you have turned into an amazing woman with an amazing but weird family. Nothing could ever top having the Avengers as your family, trust me. I know what it's like to loose your parents and the one thing you'll need more than anything right now are people who love you."
"Thank you Peter." Abby hugs him tighter than before.
"You'll always have me, no matter what happens."
They stay there ignoring everyone, even Tony who Thor and Cap are holding back from punching Peter. After a while Abby falls asleep, Peter picks her up and carries her back to bed. Peter lays her down, kisses her on her forehead and walks out. Soon after that the rest of the Avengers fall soundly asleep, with Peter on the coach.
As the city sleeps one man remains awake as he watches over Peter with a sickly smile,
"Enjoy your sweet dreams Peter Parker, for these will be your last."
A/N
So I know this chapter sucked but I also know that it has been a while since I've updated this. But I promise you guys that the next chapter will be better though it might take as long just because I actually want the next chapter to be better.
Also I've recently been reading a story by Tony_Loki called Pills and Potions, which is REALLY good. Note that it is boyxboy but it's really good, if you're into reading more with Peter, Tony, and Cap follow her. She's written a lot of stuff with them which are AMAZING. Okay sorry I'll stop fan-girling, any ways new chapter at some point.
Bye
