My Weird Family

Chapter 4

My mom is kneeling in front of me, with my dad behind me. My mom keeps saying,

"Come on Abby darling, just one foot in front of the other. Come on you've almost got it."

I try putting one foot in front of my other one, but I start to fall. My dad catches me and I start to cry.

"Daisy, I think we need to try something else."

"I know just what to do."

My mom leaves the room and comes back with her guitar. She sits down in front of me and starts singing,

"Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you'll be walking cross the floor. Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you'll be walking out the door."

As my mom sings this over and over a again, I start to smile. Very slowly I do as the song says, put one foot in front of the other.

My dad lets me go and I wobble my way over to my mom. I wobble right up to her and the biggest smile I have ever seen comes across her face.

She turns me around and I wobble my way over to my dad. I'm about to make it when I trip and fall, but my dad grabs me.

He lifts me over his head, and smiles just like my mom did. All I do for the rest of the afternoon is walk back and forth to my parents. With my mother singing softly to me.

Abigail wakes up in a cold sweat in Fury's arms. After the explosion the Avengers split off, leaving Fury with an unconscious teenager.

Fury looks down and says, "Don't move, there was an explosion. I'm bringing you down to the hospital ward."

"Where's Tony?" Abigail asks weakly.

"He and Steve went to fix the engine." Fury says blantly as they reach the hospital ward. Fury places Abigail down in a chair and says, "She was near the explosion can you just do a routine check on her, alright. I've got to go."

Fury leaves and the doctor turns to her and asks, "Again?".

"I don't even know what happened, I saw an unidentified jet and I was about to tell someone when all of a sudden. Darkness, then I saw a memory of my parents."

"Strange."

"You're telling me."

"Well, come on. Let's give you a check up."

The doctor gives her a check up and says, "Surprisingly you only have some bruising, which we can stop pretty easily. Other than that, you are perfectly healthy."

"Seriously? Wow."

"Alright, Let's get you fixed up."

The doctor takes Abigail into a back room. He found one of the bruises and slowly he injected a needle into it. Then very slowly he the back of the needle and took out the blood that was pooling inside her arm.  He kept repeating the process until all of the bruises were gone.

The doctor let her go with a clean bill of health, besides the hemophilia thing. Abigail walks up to the control center and she almost gets shot.

"Abigail, good to see that you're okay. Now stay back." Agent Hill says.

Before Abigail could even respond, Fury grabs her and pulls her out of the way. "Stay hidden." He says to her. Abigail nods and stays where she is, finally everyone stops shooting. "Clear." someone yells.

"Good now get these computers back up and running." Fury commands. 

Every agent is trying to get the computers back up but one one is succeeding. Finally Abigail looks to see an arrow sticking in one of the computers. "Uh, this could be the problem." She says pointing to the arrow.

"Barton." Fury whispers. Fury walks over and pulls the arrow out, almost immediately after he does all of the computers turn back on. Suddenly though another engine gave out, Fury then says, "Stark we're losing altitude."

"Yeah. Noticed." Tony replies.

After a while everyone is quiet, the Hulks gone, Bartons out cold, Thor is lost, and Coulson is dead. The only people who are still here are Tony and Steve. Abigail sits in a chair with her legs against her chest and her head on her knees.

 Fury explains what happened and what Coulson believed. How Coulson died believing in the Avengers. Suddenly Tony gets up and walks out of the room. After a while Steve leaves also, Abigail doesn't move. She pulls out her phone and dials a number.

*Ring, Ring*

"Hello?"

"Charlie. It's me."

"Abby!"

"Hey Charlie. How was your day?"

"It was a lot of fun. Those bullies stopped by again. They didn't hit me or anything..."

Abigail gets out of the chair and starts walking around as she listens to Charlie talk, "they were about to when I told them. That you were adopted by Iron Man, and that if they hurt me at all. He would come and hurt them."

Abigail laughs at what Charlie says, they talk for a while. Tony comes up to Abigail and says, "Abigail, you've got to leave."

"Charlie I'm so sorry but I have to go." Abigail hangs up the phone. She looks at Tony and asks, "What's going on? Where am I going?"

"What's going on is, Loki is bringing an alien army to New York. And you are going back to the tower." 

Abigail stops in her tracks and asks, "What?"

"You are going to the tower so..."

"No I understand that but what was that about the aliens?"

"Loki has an army of aliens. He is bringing them to New York to do something we don't know what. But if you stay in the tower you will be safe."

"I'm not going to the tower."

"What? Yes you are!"

"No. I'm. Not!"

"Abigail, I'm trying to help you, please just go to the tower."

"If you're saying that aliens are coming to attack New York. Then I am not going to the tower, I am going back to the house."

Tony stands there as she continues, "I am going back to the place that was my home for that past 11 years. And I am going to protect MY FAMILY!" Abigail finishes with tears in her eyes.

Tony nods and says, "Cap, Barton, and Natasha are taking a jet you can go with them. They will drop you off. I knew it was a good idea to adopt you."

Tony walks away, while Abigail stands there in awe. Abigail runs off, she changes her clothes and grabs her bag. Abigail then runs to the hanger to see the Captain, Barton, and Natasha getting into a jet.

"I'm coming with you." Abigail says. 

"No, you're not. Not where we're going." Barton says.

"I know. I need you to take me some place else." 

They all raise an eyebrow at what Abigail said. Abigail takes a breath and says, "I need to go back to the adoption center. Tony told me what Loki is going to do and I need to get back to the center so I can save my family."

A smirk forms over Caps face, he turns to Barton and says, "Let's take her to the center."
