Ding! The first period bell rang and Grayson, Kayla, Colton and I headed to ELA with Mrs. Kelly. We walked in the front door and sat in our usual spots. Colton wrapped an arm around me and whispered in my ear
"So Bee, what's the status quo? I mean people are asking and I don't wanna say that we are you know like dating but I mean we do like each other. Right? Or am I just a psycho? Because for real I know I like you but I'm getting mixed signals from you as well." I looked up at him under my eyelashes and pulled my glasses on top of my head. I grabbed his hand that was wresting in his lap and gave him a warm smile.
"Colton, I just got out of a pretty complicated relationship and you know that. I do have feelings for you and I want to date you but I well I still like Ethan too." He sat up a little straighter and unwrapped his arm from around me and let go of my hand. He went to say something but I cut him off. "You didn't let me finish. "I may still like Ethan but he obviously has no feelings for me so I would be honored to call myself your girlfriend, but let me warn you, I am no cheerleader, nor do I plan to be one" His face lit up with a bright smile and he grabbed my hands with his.
"Brie what's your middle name?" He said while shooting out of his chair. I went to respond when Ethan flew threw the door and came storming over to my desk. Colton sat down and let go of my hands just at the sight of Ethan.
"You know I loved you so fucking much Brielle Summer Gates" He slapped a card down on the table and sat own at his desk. A single tear dripped down my cheek and I immediately wiped it away. Everyone stared at me until someone finally said "Well aren't you gonna open it?" I tore open the envelope and pulled out a card that read Happy Birthday to my one and only. When I opened the card a picture fell out. It was the picture Kayla took of us at the park. Of just our legs and our hands intertwined together. Colton took one look at the picture and then my face.
"You really do love him, don't you?" Co I could only nod as I continued to silently cry. He pulled me into a tight hug and ran his long fingers through my hair. "Bee I love you so much. and over the past week that I've gotten to know you I have learned more about myself then I thought I'd ever know. I AM so SO lucky to have you as one of my best friends and I will take that in pride. I pulled away and kissed his cheek.
"Colt. You seriously just made my day. I will always be here for you and you have my number and that pretty cute picture of us on your phone so if you ever need something, you know who to call." I pulled away from our tight embrace. Mrs. Kelly was sick so we had a free day so I went to the library to think to myself. As I ran down the stairs I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around hoping for it to be Ethan, only to be let down.
"Gray? What's up? Is there something I can help you with?" He ran up behind me and slid his hands in his pockets.
"Well I was just hoping to talk to you about well..." I saw the look in his eyes and rolled my own. I grasped his arm and continued to walk toward the library .
"What Kayla? Ethan?" He opened the door to the library as we approached.
"Well uh Ethan. He really does love you and he spends all of his time in his room. He doesn't eat. All he does is cry and go to the bathroom. I can't believe that he likes you that much. Well I can but I just can't believe that he actually cares about someone so much that he c-. Never mind. Just forget I said anything." I came to a complete stop and slammed the book down on the table that I hadn't even noticed I picked up.
"He WHAT?" I said looking at Grayson with an evil eye. A single tear dripped down Grayson's cheek and then dripped off of his chin and hit his shoe. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it as had as I could until he finally gave in.
"He cut his wrists. Just once and then immediately bandaged them" He looked at me with a guilty expression. "He really misses you Bee, He likes you. A lot" I looked at him and shook my head.
"Thank you. Let's go back to class now."
