The corridor was strangely quiet as the students piled into the great hall. The dark robes all stuck together, almost forming what seemed to be a large blob. And although the corridors were quiet, once you gathered into the hall you could hear the loud chatter of the students excited to see their friends.
However, there was one boy. He sat at the table against the far wall, his robes black, with green edges. His blond hair slicked back, as to not fall in his eyes. He is the one people were watching. He said nothing. Something that was so unlike him. But his mind was else where. His mind was on the girl two tables away. Her now blackish hair curled, and green eyes alive. For she was the one who had occupied his head for the entire summer.
Her focus wasn't on him though. It was on her best friends. Fred and George Weasley. The pranksters. Ahh yes. The two youngsters, that no matter how childish they look and act, will never leave a friend behind. They watched their friend carefully as she smiled to their younger brother. Telling him of how Harry had blown up his aunt. But they knew she was hiding something. They knew what truly happened last year.
They knew they would always stand by Devon's side. The reason? Because they saw one thing that would truly haunt them for life...... They saw their best friend practically dead, two years in a row.
Her first year they walked into the hospital wing to get Fred's head shrunken back to normal size after a defaulted spell, when they saw the teachers rushing Devon and Harry's unconscious body's to the cots. Devon had a black ring around her neck as if from being choked, and a large gash leading from her hair line to her eyebrow.
And then her second year...... It truly was a strange occurrence, they were walking to Transfiguration when they heard a scream. The terrifying part was they knew that scream. It was the same one that they heard when she accidentally fell off one of the moving staircases, after messing around with them.
They had run around the corner they saw something they didn't want to see ever again. There laying on the ground in a pool of blood, was A petrified Devon. They believed she had fallen, and when she went to get up she saw the basilisk reflection in her own blood. But the theory was never confirmed. What everyone was trying to figure out was why it went after a half- blood. Maybe it was a mistake, maybe it wasn't.
All they knew, was that they were going to be keeping a very, very close eye on her this year.
