2035, 1 January, Mars

"Happy New Year!!!" All you could hear was screams and shouts as the bell struck twelve midnight. Another year gone... I was in the ballroom, covering my ears from the piercing screams and cheers. As the Princess of Mars, I was required to attend the event and sit on the throne, looking pretty next to my parents. I stepped off the throne and went back to my bedroom with a black face.

"Honey, your birthday is coming soon... What would you like to have?" My mother sat on the edge of my bed questioned while stroking my hair. Shrugging my shoulders in response, she sighed, "Princess Emmaline, I have something to tell you. As you know that you are eleven now..." She trailed off and immediately I knew where the conversation was leading to.

Faking a yawn, " Mum, I think that I should rest as tomorrow will be a big day..."

She sighed again and placed a kiss on my forehead, "Yes, your royal gown when you turn 12 in 11 days to become Queen of Mars." Turning my back to face her, she closed the door. I shook my head and tried to get some sleep.

"Hello?" My voice echoed through the dark space. The hairs on my arms stand as I heard a familiar ear piercing scream. My blood ran cold, I would recognize that scream anywhere. "Father!" I yelled as I took off blindly in the darkness. Soon, I found myself face to face with my parents. They were in chains and were covered in blood, they looked so broken and...

"Run! Emmaline, you will leave this place this instance!" Mother bellowed, trying to get out of the chains to chase me away. However, my feet stayed rooted to the ground until I felt an iron grip on my arm, pulling me away from my parents. Their eyes were filled with relief and gratitude. I wanted to scream for someone to tell me it was a dream and it was not real so badly. Pulling back from the iron grip, it did me no good and I gritted my teeth to refrain from screaming out loudly.

"STOP!" I shrieked. I bolted out of my bed and landed on the ground with a loud 'thud'. Rubbing my sore forehead, I sat on the edge of the bed and thought about the nightmare. It was rare that I get nightmares and when I do, they tend to be real. I pulled my legs up onto my bed, closer to my chest as I thought about it...

"Honey, is everything alright?" I whipped my head to see Mother standing at the door with creases on her forehead. Shaking my head, I pat the empty place beside me. She took the hint and sat down beside me, listening to my horrible nightmare while whispering soothing words into my ears. Ensuring me that it would never happen. However, little did she and I know... It was not just a dream...

2037, 30 December, Earth

Bombs fell from the sky onto lands or seas creating explosions and smoke as the places rise in flames. Cries could be hear everywhere. Fear could be felt everywhere. People were whimpering and whispering goodbyes, last kisses were shared, fragile hearts were breaking. The ground started to shake and chaos erupted. Everyone broke up and ran for their lives, some choosing to accept their fate and stay. Rain came pouring from the dark grey sky, perhaps it was crying over the sadness, trying to extinguish the flames, to heal the injured earth. A flash cut through the sky. Screams of terror filled the air. So much pain, so much lost, so much agony, it was all felt and heard. Thunder roared as the fire kept rising. Growing bolder and stronger. No one would be able to help, no one would be able to come, and no one would be able to leave. Certainly, no one might be able to survive.

We were having breakfast when Brad suddenly tensed. My eyebrows furrowed as he placed his hand on his heart, struggling to breathe.
