(Author: I've updated again on this story for the second time this month? Or third?? And it's a longer chapter! I've also added 7 chapters this month to my other story called Freaky Schoolboy! I'm so proud haha)
Merlin paced around the room, waiting for either the girl to wake up or for Gaius to return but it seemed like he was waiting forever. Arthur had left a while ago so Merlin was alone with his thoughts, and he didn't want to be. The thoughts of killing the girl in the first place still haunted him but he kept that to the back of his mind.
While he waited he performed simple spells and polished Arthur's armor which needed doing today. Then, he heard a gasp and the objects fell from the air to the ground as he dropped Arthur's belongings. The clang of metal echoed around the room and Merlin turned his body so that he was fully facing the girl who was now staring at the boy. I probably shouldn't have practiced my magic at this moment, he thought. Idiot.
"What? Where am I?" the girl said with a tone of panic in her voice. Merlin walked over to her and stood at her side.
"You're ok, you're in the physician's chambers" Merlin said.
"Oh" the girl looked baffled as she looked around the room. "How did I get here?"
"You don't remember" Merlin said, with a slight tone of relief. Phew. "Well um, can you tell me what you were doing before" he said and she stared at him. "Just so I know...and to make sure you haven't damaged your head, not that it looks damaged...or anything." Merlin's palms felt slightly sweaty. "Sorry, I'm babbling, it's what I do. I'm Merlin by the way...Gaius is out. He's the physician. In case you didn't know." He stood there feeling uncomfortable for a few seconds, waiting for the girl to respond. She laughed slightly. "Are you ok?" Merlin asked a few seconds later. She blinked a couple of times before answering.
"Yes, sorry Merlin. It's just that I could have sworn I've seen you before for some reason" she said smiling and Merlin smiled awkwardly. "I'm Katherine but people call me Kate and I work in the kitchens but I'm new so I don't know my way around yet" she smiled again.
"Oh hi, it's nice to meet you. I'm the King's manservant" he said and she gasped.
"The King. Wow that must be such an honor." Merlin couldn't help but burst out with a small chuckle at her comment.
"Not really, he's a prat most of the time" Merlin laughed. "Don't tell anyone I said that to you. He already knows this nickname but I don't want to risk my head" he said and she nodded, laughing slightly with her hand covering her mouth.
"I think I must've fainted" the girl said a few seconds later and Merlin raised an eyebrow, hoping that she would find some explanation rather than glowing golden eyes on a dark haired boy. "I've not been feeling great these past few days."
"Well you can stay and rest here for as long as you want" Merlin said, feeling slightly guilty. The girl thanked him and lay her head back down. Merlin offered her a proper bed but she declined as she was fine where she was.
"Merlin" a voice echoed through the walls. Merlin looked around but the girl lay still, oblivious to the dragon call. "Merlin" it sounded again.
"I have to go" Merlin said and the girl's eyes flicked open.
"Can't you stay with me a bit longer?" She asked. "I was just getting to know you." She looked at him with pleading eyes and Merlin shifted slightly.
"Meeerrrlin." This time the dragons tone was deeper and more urgent.
"There's not much to know about me really, ask Arthur. I'm basically just a servant and you'll be fine. Sorry I have to go but Gaius will be back soon" Merlin hurriedly said and with that he left. He ran down the corridor until he reached the courtyard and bumped into Arthur.
"Where are you going in such a rush" Arthur said.
"Nowhere important Sire" he replied.
"More secrets?" Arthur said raising an eyebrow. Merlin sighed.
"I'm" Merlin began until Leon interrupted him.
"My lord, he's arrived." Arthur turned to face the knight and whilst he was distracted, Merlin fled to the forest. Arthur doesn't need to be involved, Merlin thought.

Arthur finished his conversation and turned around to find that Merlin had vanished. He looked around but Leon pressured him to hurry up. They walked up the castle steps and headed to the throne room, neither of them having anything to say. When they reached the room, there was already a man there with Percival and Elyan at either side. Arthur was the first to speak, clearing his throat beforehand.
"You must be Sir Matthew" he greeted the man, shaking his hand. "I've heard a lot of good things about you".
"And I of you, King Arthur. It's an honor to be in your presence" he said, bowing his head slightly. "It's a shame it couldn't be due to a celebration or perhaps a tournament, rather than the high priestess." Arthur grit his teeth at mention of Morgana.
"Yes but when this is all over we will celebrate with a feast and you are very welcome to join the festivities."
"Thank you my Lord" Sir Matthew said. "I would be happy to join you in marking our victory over magic!" Arthur shifted uncomfortably at that comment as he thought of Merlin. The Knights kept quite too but Sir Matthew didn't notice anything.
"Please sit" Arthur said and they all sat down. The doors to the room opened and the rest of the Knights entered and took a seat. "Thank you for meeting with us. Our top priority for Camelot is to get rid of Morgana and her followers once and for all" Arthur started to say and some Knights nodded in agreement. "She's dangerous and her powers have advanced far more than we first realized. She's abusing her power!" Arthur stated, although everyone knew that.
"Just like every sorcerer does" Sir Matthew added.
"Not all sorcerers turn dark like her" Arthur said firmly but Sir Matthew continued.
"You're right. They're born like it and everyone with magic should be punished for practicing it" he said. He nodded to Arthur, waiting for his approval but instead the King looked away.
"I know that by law sorcery is banned but despite this, I've had...the privilege to be in the presence of magical beings and they've served me well. Maybe we're not so different after all" Arthur said, remembering all of the times Merlin had saved him over the years.
"But sire, Uther would have had them hung by now" Sir Matthew protested.
"I am not my father" Arthur reminded and he waved his hand slightly. "We'll continue this discussion at a later date. For now, I'm in need of that clumsy servant of mine" Arthur said in a slightly irritated tone. "He was supposed to deliver my armor to my chambers, not go gallivanting in the forest." Gwaine smiled to himself.
"What's he doing there?" the knight asked.
"Who knows. Merlin things" Arthur said, leaving the room and the rest followed.
