"Why are you doing this" ordered Leon.
"Revenge" Morgana simply said. "Over the past few years I've been faced with an enemy. Emyrs. He has always been there to stop me and prevent any harm from coming to you and he must be destroyed. He has tormented me and ruined my plans and now, thanks to Mordred, I know his true identity. Besides, I am the rightful Queen and Camelot and you, Arthur Pendragon, are in my way too."
"It's not just Morgana's life that Emyrs has ruined" Mordred said. "As a child I was nearly caught because he changed his mind about saving me. Luckily he changed it back and helped me to escape. However, he has never trusted me since and even when I was made a knight of Camelot he was still cautious around me." The knights listened but were confused.
"Who is this Emyrs?" Arthur questioned. Morgana smiled and leaned in towards him.
"That's the thing. This person has hidden in the shadows for far too long and he has fooled even you. Emyrs is his druid name" she said and then she turned her head to face Merlin. "And he is sat right over there." Even though they already knew about Merlin's magic, the knights had no idea about his other name or the harm that he'd caused to Morgana in the past. Arthur almost felt sympathy for her. He knew what it felt like to be betrayed by Merlin but when Morgana first discovered her magic, he could have helped. Instead he chose not to.
"I understand how his betrayal feels Morgana" Arthur said. "From what you've told me he has done many terrible things to you."
"How can you possibly understand? He has always protected you but seek to destroy me. So I will do the same to him!"
"Maybe it wasn't his fault. Maybe he wanted to reveal his secret to you on several occasions but was forced not to" said Arthur.
"I don't care about that anymore. He could have helped me from the beginning instead of leaving me alone to suffer!"
"He did what he believed to be right. You, Morgana, needed to be stopped."
"But why did he nearly kill me when I wasn't a threat. Do you remember the day when Morgause and her army invaded the castle and we had to protect Uther? Everyone was falling asleep but we three managed to stay awake long enough to fight back." Arthur nodded.
"I remember" he said.
"Good" she said. "Now tell me the reasons why Merlin wanted me dead back then. Nothing, no answer?" Arthur hadn't realised that Merlin was capable of that and he couldn't understand why he chose to do it. Morgana finally stopped talking to the knights and she walked over to Mordred and whispered in his ear. He smirked and nodded. His eyes made contact with Arthur's and they were cold and empty. Mordred and Morgana felt like strangers to Arthur. Slowly, Morgana walked over to Merlin's body and grabbed his face.
"I still can't believe that Emyrs, the powerful sorcerer, is in my grasp. It's about time. Soon you'll have no one to save you Arthur and then the throne shall be mine." She looked around and stared at the knights. "Ready for some fun men?" she said, smiling. "It's time to wake him up and then I can punish him properly. He deserves to be awake for this." She began mumbling ancient words and her eyes glowed gold until Merlin's eyes started to flutter open. When he did wake up, he stared straight ahead at the knights and then his gaze met Morgana.
"Hello there Emyrs. We've just been talking about you". Merlin tried to free his hands but they were tightly tied down and he could barely lift them up. "We don't want you to escape now do we, especially when you can use your magic against us."
"I don't know what you're talking about" Merlin said confidently although deep down he was afraid of what she could do and he knew his secret was out in the open.
"Now we all know that's not true" she smirked and grabbed his face and stared hard into his eyes. "It's just another one of your lies." She let go and stepped back to Mordred's side.
"Like you haven't lied before" Merlin stated and Morgana glared at him.
"I had to, I had no other choice! Magic chose me and I needed to survive."
"Well I was born with it. I've had to hide too and keep my magic hidden! I had to leave home but I'm not like you. I know how you feel but I didn't let it change who I was so I have no sympathy for you!"
Morgana shrieked and her eyes turned golden with rage as Merlin's body was smacked by gusts of wind. All the knights could do was watch and listen. The rope tied around them must've been infused by magic because every time they thought they could break free, they grew tighter around their bodies. All of their faces were filled with shock and worry for the king's servant, their beloved friend, Emrys.
Merlin groaned with pain but kept his eyes on Morgana's. She smirked. Using her magic she conjured up daggers out of twigs and aimed them straight at Merlin. Before Merlin could deflect them he was hit all over his body and he winced. Once more he groaned in pain and saw his arms covered in scratches and felt a small amount of blood trickle down from a cut on his forehead.
"Isn't this fun" she laughed but Merlin responded with a cold glare. "Oh don't look at me like that Emrys. You will soon know how fun it is to torture people."
"I will never abuse my magic in such a way" he said.
"Well you've already used it against me, and your other enemies. You have the taste for it and soon, without even realising it you will understand the endless possibilities of inflicting your power onto people."
"No" Merlin said, "I'm not like you."
"In some ways you are Merlin, you just need to accept that."
"No we are not the same. We are completely opposite. At one point we might've been on the same side but everything's changed."
"Opposites attract Emrys. You side with me and we can unleash endless power together."
Something surged through Merlin, making him feel so many emotions. He tried to ignore Morgana but her words echoed around his head. He tried to clear his mind by shaking his head but it was useless.
"Side with me Emrys" Morgana said sternly.
Then, he heard Arthur shout "no don't do it Merlin!" The sound of his voice made Merlin snap out of his confusion and made everything clear. His destiny was to save Arthur!
"Side with me" Morgana repeated in a louder tone. A feeling of rage and strength built up inside Merlin and forced its way up his throat.
"Never!" he yelled with all of his energy, causing his eyes to glow gold. All of his emotions transformed into magic and he continued to roar and blast a surprised Morgana and Mordred into the air and smacking them against the trees. Birds around them immediately flew away in fear of the sudden noise and the knights were half covering their ears. Eventually Merlin stopped and the whole forest was left in a deafening silence. He breathed heavily and sunk his head, staring at the grass beneath him. His throat was sore and all of that magic tired him out and he wanted to rest but he knew Morgana was still a threat. He lifted his head up slowly and saw two bodies tossed some distance away and he hoped they would be knocked out for a while.
