CHAPTER
I

Run Jess! Run Jess! Run Jess! I said in my head. Just keep running and nothing will happen to you, I hope.

I really don't know how the hell I escaped from Henry. Henry is my stepfather. A stepfather that has been abusing me through the age of thirteen and now he almost tried to have sex with me in my room. My own bedroom where it supposes to be my only safe place, where there's silence and peaceful, I guess.

I tried pushing him away with all of my might and strength but I was having struggles since he's stronger and heavier than I am. I mean, his five'eleven and I'm five'three. Can you imagine Henry's height and my height? And I weight hundred-thirteen while his probably two hundred.

"I'M GOING TO GET YOU, JESS!"  Henry shouted behind while running after me.

I need to have a plan at least. "Danny?" I said.

Danny will actually help me. Daniel is more like a brother to me but a best friend since we were in diapers. He knew my parents since his parents were very close to my parents. Daniel is nineteen and works at a part-time job that he hasn't told me yet. He lives now with his eighty-one-year-old grandmother since his parents died in a car accident when he was seventeen.

And he knows about Henry and that's why Danny is the only person that I feel that I can tell everything about that bastard stepfather Henry.

Anyway, I ran and kept running as fast I could even if I feel lightheaded, panting crazily and my legs feeling weakened. I stopped where I felt breathless and wheezing from running that I kneeled with my hands on the pavement.

I looked behind me to see if Henry was still following me but he wasn't. I smiled with a relieve inside of me.

I quickly took out my phone to dial Daniel's number. Ringing. Ringing. Ringing. That's where he picked it up, "hello?" Danny said.

"D-Danny..." I paused for a moment when I notice some movement in front of me on a bunch of big bushes moving that I got rattled by it.

"Jess, is something wrong?" I stepped backward where the big bushes kept moving constantly. "Jessica, are you still there?"

"D-Danny, I-I need you to help me," I whispered.

"What? I can't hear you. Speak up." Danny said that while I kept backing up and backing up. "Jess?" Danny said sounding worried.

"Don't hang up," I told him.

"But what's going on?" He said.

I saw the same big bushes moving again and again. "H-Henry?" I whispered, "Henry, is that you?"

"AAAHH," I screamed.

"Arf! Arf! Arf!"

I dropped myself to the ground my butt connected with the ground. A Boxer breed the color of black just almost came at me since the dog had chains holding him at the end of the front yard.

"Arf! Arf!"

This dog is too aggressive and angry.

I stood up off from the ground, "Danny, open your window." I disconnected the call from my cell phone and started to run again to Danny's home.

"I'm going to freaking kill him," Danny said in an anger. "Jess, you need to report this. It's killing me that my best friend has to live with this beast." He kneeled down and pressed my shoulders lightly. "Look at me." I looked at him, "Jess let me help you. I'm the only person you have in your life right now. Let me help you please."

I miss Danny so much. I eagerly hugged him so tight. "Can I stay here?"

He said, "sure. Anytime." I smiled when I heard those words.

It's Sunday morning that I woke up really late. Twelve-forty-five PM but I still feel tired from last night. I looked at my surroundings to see that I'm still in Danny's bedroom but he isn't here with me on the bed.

"Danny?" He wasn't on the floor or wasn't in the bathroom. "Daniel?"

I slowly stood up wherein the corner of my eye I tilted my head where I saw on the window "Henry," and my heart pounded.
No this cannot be happening to me. Henry is outside talking to Danny. "He found me. He fucking found me." I paced the room.

I need to hide. But where? I have no family or the only friend I have is Danny, no other friends that I know of.

Where can I hide? I just can't keep hiding from Henry forever. And I can't report Henry because I am a minor still. I'm not legally eighteen, yet. Stupid law.

I stopped pacing and looked again at the window to see Henry leaving. Hell yes. He's leaving. He's leaving.

"He went back home," Daniel said.

"Are you sure? Was he looking for me? Is he taking me back?" I talked so fast that Danny was chuckling. "It's not funny," I punched on his shoulder.

"Firstly, ouch. That really hurt. And secondly, I told him that I haven't seen you since this last week." I hugged him. Thank goodness that he lied. What would have happened if I didn't have a friend like him in my life?

"Thank you! Thank You! Thank you!" I said kissing him on his cheek.

"Uh...you are welcome," we giggled. "What you're going to do now?"

"I-I don't know," I sat on his bed. "I don't even have a plan yet. And I can't keep hiding. For some reason, he keeps finding me." I quickly wiped my tears so Danny wouldn't know that I'm crying. "What do you think I should do?"

"Put him in prison. That's the only thing you can do. Your life is precious, Jess. Don't let Henry abuse you anymore." He sat next to me and I placed my head on his shoulder.

"Ok. I'll think about it." We both looked at the window with silence. We have time to talk but for now, I think silence is better.
