I can't sleep (not surprising), so I go to sit on the roof. "Argh!" I scream in pain as I pull myself up over the roof edge. I had forgotten about my arm, after the King. Well the dead King now, I think as I prop myself against the chimney looking up towards the sky. It's early, about 3am.
I normally sleep from about 12-3pm, but being caught and almost executed has mucked my sleep schedule up and I haven't slept in over 48 hours. I'm surprised I'm not asleep yet.
Just as I'm about to fall asleep, I hear footsteps and the sound of someone jumping. I look towards where the sound is coming from and see a silhouette of a person coming towards me. It almost makes me stand up with my sword drawn, but then I recognise the figure as Caspar.
"Cas, when I said get up early, I didn't mean this early." I say laughing.
"When did we start calling each other nicknames, Saf?" He replies.
"Uh, just about now." I answer. "But seriously, why are you up so early?"
"I might ask you the same question, but you are the reason I'm up. You went missing, I came to find you." Caspar says shrugging. "Your turn."
I feel a knot form in my stomach. This is not something I should tell him, but for some insane reason, I tell him anyway. "This may be hard to believe, but I always sleep during daylight, for up to 3 hours a day."
The new King's face looks surprised, but I'm not sure if he's believing it or not.
"And," I continue, "when I was caught, I couldn't sleep when I normally did, or at night, so to sum it up for you, I haven't slept in over 48 hours." I give a nervous smile to finish.
"I'm up here because I heard you scream. Are you alright?" He asks. He is concerned.
"Yeah, it's my arm, your father hurt it remember?" Caspar looks confused.
"Yeah, I forgot too, but honestly, I'll be fine."
"You should be back down there sleeping." I say after a long silence.
"I'll be gone early, so don't wait for me, just make your own way and meet me back here by midnight tomorrow."
"Goodnight, Saf."
"Goodnight, Caspie."
"Caspie?"
"Just trying new ones out. Caspie doesn't feel right, so I'll stick with Cas for the moment."
We both laugh.
"Goodnight, Safi."
As he climbs down back into the empty house, I stand to begin my journey.

I wave goodbye to Safi as I climb back down to the ground and into the house. Sleep hits me as soon as I lay down, and I don't try to stop it. I have a big day ahead.
