Chapter-4

I went to class. I told the teacher about Suzy having some paperwork. I then took my seat and started pondering on their discussion. Maybe I was overthinking. It was none of my business anyway.

I decided to listen attentively to what my literature teacher was saying. I needed an A+ in all my subjects. Being in senior year, I had to learn to study on a daily basis.

"Excuse me" Suzy says and enters the class.

She looks a little confused. I try not to notice how she looks at Mathew indicating that they need to talk. Gosh! I shouldn't be making their personal issues my problem.

She sits next to Mathew and they whisper.

"How many of them?" Asks Mathew.

"A few. We have to do it fast though" says Suzy.

"Hey you. The new one. Keep it down" says my teacher.

I can't hear them now. They both glance back at me and smile. I smile back.

Now I just completely involve myself in my English teacher's explanation on Shakespeare's childhood.

It's time for Maths. I see the math teacher entering the class. Me and my friends decide to bunk and go out. Math is really getting on my nerves.

We tell the teacher we have some important group assignment and head out. Emily calls Suzy and Mathew too. Did I tell you Emily was the friendliest person ever?

We go to the cafeteria and start to gossip.

"So Mathew, tell us more about you" says Bella not taking her eyes off of his. She definitely has the hots for him.

"Well, what can I say? I live on Tabletoft street. My dad is an.... A pilot. My mum is a housewife. I have no elder brother or sister. My grandparents live in Sineria. They don't wanna live in a another city. My life is pretty much uninteresting at this point" says Mathew.

"Well, you didn't tell us about you and Suzy! So, how'd y'all meet and when?" Asks Emily.

"Umm... It's a pretty long story" says Mathew grinning.

"We've got all the time we need!" Says Eddie excitedly.

"Okay. Suzy, why don't you tell em? You always give each detail like it happened just yesterday" Says Mathew with expectation.

"Okay. Here we go. How we met is a funny story. We were in a school play together and we actually used to despise each other. We just couldn't get along. This was in 6th grade. So one day, we both came to school realizing that there wasn't practice that day. That was one hell of a coincidence! Now our parents were busy with their own work and we decided not to bother them. We sat with each other and practiced our lines. It got kinda boring and we just chatted for the rest of the day. As days passed by, we got to know each other and started to take a liking towards each other. Then one day after school hours, Mathew came up to me and told me 'I need to tell you something. I... I... I have a problem'. I ask him what problem he had to which he said 'it's complicated. We need to talk. I... Uh... Will you be my girlfriend?' I immediately said yes. I was just waiting for him to ask me that since the day we became friends"

"Well that's a nice story" says Mike rolling his eyes.

"Aww... That's adorable!" Exclaims Bella.

I see Mathew and Suzy exchange smiles.

"Wow. You guys must really love each other so much" I say.

"Yeah we do" Mathew says while looking at Suzy.

"I think they need some privacy now" Eddie says grinning.

"Haha. No! Let's hear about you guys now" says Suzy.

Emily starts to vent on how her relationship ended and how she eventually found peace with being single. Mike sits there looking bored. Bella is almost in tears and Eddie is sipping his coffee not really bothered 'cause he's heard this story tons of times. Mathew and Suzy hold hands and listen keenly.

"Oh god Emily. Don't you worry. You'll find your guy soon" says Suzy with confidence.

"So Shea, tell us about you" says Mathew looking at me with a smile.

"Okay. Well, I've never been in a realionship. Yup. That's it" I say.

"What?! Are you kidding me?" Asks Suzy with disbelief.

"Our Shea here is a weirdo" says Mike with a half smile.

"It's just that I haven't found the right guy yet" I say defensively.

"You're not much of a risk taker. Are you?" asks Suzy.

"Not really. I'm actually not even interested in having a boyfriend. I'm fine all by myself for now" I say.

"Weirdo indeed" confirms Emily.

I sigh.

"We're actually having a party today. We'd love it if you guys could come. It'll be only the lot of us. It's at a motel not very far from here. It's called 'traveller's cabin'" says Suzy.

"That's for like people from other cities. You guys live there?" asks Mike.

"You are inviting us for a party? On what occasion?" I ask.

"No Mike. Mathew and I were supposed to live alone in a motel for the night. We wanted to have some fun. We then thought it would be nice if you guys joined us. There will be a few other guests but we don't need to worry about them" Suzy says.

"Yeah sure! I'm ready for a party anytime!" Says Eddie.

Everyone seemed to agree to go to this party. I also agreed.

"Just don't tell anyone about it. Only you guys are invited" says Mathew.

"My mouth is zipped" says Emily grinning.

We hear the bell ring and now it's time to go home. We bid each other good bye and remind ourselves of the party.

Buy then I remember Suzy's conversation with Mathew in class.

How many of them?

Just a few. We have to do it fast though.

Why would they call us when they barely know us and why did I agree when I barely know them?

I decide to go this party anyhow and let my stupidity get the best of me.
