A week zipped past before my eyes. It was already Friday and Hambell's party was tonight. His parents were leaving at midday and everyone was invited to come over.
By Wednesday morning I had calmed down about the whole sphere-falling-from-the-sky/space-thing. With my exams coming up and just general teenage life I didn't have time to worry about it. I did what I could and now I just wanted to forget about it.
The only thing that niggled at the back of my mind was the swing set; everything else could be explained in some way except for that. I had changed my jogging route because of it, I didn't even want to go past the damn thing anymore, it made me uneasy.
I walked into my form room and sat at my usual table. Amy wasn't in my form, so I usually sat by myself. It was only five minutes of my life and I wasn't that bothered by the people in my form. Some I had known since primary school, but they had changed; although I'm sure they would say the same about me. Others I had just drifted apart from, nothing personal, we just had.
That's when the door opened, and in walked in someone new. I hadn't seen this guy before. It was either because I was too self obsessed or he was a new kid. I thought it odd for anyone to start a new school on a Friday, but I didn't question it.
"Is this class YY2?" He asked, but no one was listening, too wrapped up in themselves to notice someone new walk in to morning registration.
"Yeah it is." I said, he smiled and walked over to me. Exactly what I didn't want to happen. He was tall, but not in a lanky way. He looked like he was well built beneath his over sized uniform. His hair was buzz cut, as if he had just stepped out of a child Army or something and he stood with a weird stiffness, like he didn't quite know his body yet. I just put it down to first day nerves.
He held his hand out for me to shake. "I'm Isaac Garner." He said, proud that he had managed to introduced himself. I raised my eyebrows at his outstretched hand. I didn't take it. His smile faded a little, but he tried his hardest to keep it plastered to his face nonetheless. "I'm new here, could I sit with you?"
He was bold, I'll give him that. I shrugged and pulled out the chair next to me. His face lit up again, happy I had accepted him. "What's your name?" he asked me. I sighed and turned in my chair to look at him. Closer up I could see his skin was flawless, and I mean 'supermodel-Photoshop-airbrush-fixed-looks like plastic' flawless.
"I'm Serena." I left my mouth open a little longer than needed, still in awe of his flawless skin, I quickly shut it and turned back in my seat to face the front.
"I just moved here this week." He started "It's a lovely place." I involuntarily scoffed at that, but he either didn't notice or he just ignored it. "I never knew there could be somewhere so beautiful, you know?" I couldn't help but smile, was this guy for real? He was a bit of a fruit loop if you asked me. Before I had a chance to give him the first rule of making new friends, our form teacher walked in, the ever-boring Mr. Stanton and started the register. When he got to the end and noticed the new name – Isaac's no doubt- he stared at it for a few seconds, rubbed his chin and read it out loud.
"Isaac Garner?" he said, hesitantly.
"Here" He said next to me.
"Oh okay, hello Isaac. I wasn't told I was having a new student today. My apologies. Would you like to say a few things about yourself to the rest of the form?" I could hear the audible groan from everyone, who just wanted to get out and get Friday over with.
"Sure thing, Thank you Mr. Stanton." Isaac stood up; I slid down in my chair, hoping no one would notice he had sat next to me. "Hi, I'm Isaac, my Family and I just moved here; it's a beautiful part of the world. My family and I are always traveling, so I'm never in one place for too long, but I hope we'll be staying here for a while yet!" He looked down at me and smiled.
