Chapter 12~ New Life

(YOUR POV )
I woke up to notice Séan outside looking out at the city. I sat up and yawned loudly for him to notice. He had tears in his eyes. He wiped them away and came inside. He laid down by me and hugged me. Sobbing into the blanket. I rubbed his back, choking back the tears.

(5 hours later)

(YOUR pov)
I heard a knock at the door, Jack was sleeping on my chest. I softly said,"Come in!" The doctor walked in, her face had no emotion. She sat down in the chair next to me and said,"We found what was wrong with your daughter." I shook Jack a little to motion him to wake up. He sat up straight away and had wide eyes. The doctor's body motions seem hesitant. She finally spoke,"Yo-Your daughter has ASD and VSD. (Definitions will be at he end.) Or known as Atrial Septal Defect and Ventricular Septal Defect." I arched a brow and Jack looked at me and looked back at the doctor. He finally spoke,"Is that a bad thing?" She gulped and nodded."it means your daughter has two holes in her heart, one on top about the size of a quarter and one on the bottom the size of a dime." I stared at her."How was she so calm?" "How dangerous is this?" "Will our daughter live?" All these questions were racing through my mind. My breathing pattern became heavy, my heart crumbled into a million pieces. I couldn't help it anymore. I broke down. I cried. Harder than I should of. Jack pulled me into his embrace. I cried into his shirt. I couldn't handle what I just heard. She continued,"You baby Will have to have surgery as soon as possible. We will need you guys to come to the doctors office once a week so we can check her heart." Jack nodded and thanked the doctor. She left the room and Jack lost it. He hugged me tighter and he sobbed into my shoulder. I let him. I didn't know what to say. I didnt know what to do. How will everyone handle this? We won't know. All we can do I have faith in god. To keep our daughter safe.

(FEW WEEKS LATER)

(JACKS POV)
It been a few weeks since we found out about our daughter's heart problem. I've been doing research about it.(10 facts at the end) it kills me how much to know about this. I heard Samantha crying, I went straight to her room and picked her up and got a great idea. (Baby voice)"you want to be in daddy's recording today" Samantha just giggled."I'll take that as a yes." I put her in a jacksepticeye tee shirt and brought her into the recording room with me. "TOP OF THE MORNING TO YA LADDIES! I want you guys to meet our little baby, Samantha!" I took her hand and waved it. She giggled. Than I proceed to play the game.

(2 hours later)

(Your pov)
I woke up to the screaming of Jack doing his outro. I sat up and looked for Samantha. Than I saw Jack walk in with her. I smiled and mentioned,"Dont forget we have a doctor's in 10 minutes." He smiled and said,"I'm going to take her." I smiled as he went out of the door with her.

(AT THE HOSPITAL)

(JACKS POV)
I sat In the doctors office, bouncing Samantha on my knee. The doctor walked in and said,"Good Evening Mr.McLaughlin how is little Samantha doing." I smiled and nodded. "She is doing great, she is just having trouble breast feeding." The doctor nodded. "Her heart is giving out. She is going to have to use a feeding tube." My smile turned into a concerned frown. I nodded as she continued."She will have to have surgery next month." My eyes grew wide. "She will only be 2 months old" I thought to myself. I nodded and agreed. She took Samantha and said,"Our team will put the tube in." I nodded as she walked away with Sam(nickname for her).

(1 hour later)

(JACKS POV)
The doctor returned with Samantha and she had a tube Iin her nose. It hurt me. Seeing her in such conditions. I nodded and thanked her as we made our way home.

(10 MINUTES LATER )

(Your pov)
I saw Jack and my baby walk in. But my baby had a tube in her nose. I questioned it and he explained why. I nodded in aggrence. He laid her down and we sat in the living room as he told me about how soon she needs surgery. I began to cry. I didn't know how and when this horrible nightmare will end.

ASD: congenital heart defect (CHD)in which blood flows between the atria (upper chambers) of the heart. Normally, the atria are separated by a dividing wall, the interatrial septum. If this septum is defective or absent, then oxygen-rich blood can flow directly from the left side of the heart to mix with the oxygen-poor blood in the right side of the heart, or vice versa.[1] This can lead to lower-than-normal oxygen levels in the arterial blood that supplies the brain, organs, and tissues. However, an ASD may not produce noticeable signs or symptoms, especially if the defect is small.

VSD: ventricular septal defect (VSD) is a defect in the ventricular septum, the wall dividing the left and right ventricles of the heart.

The ventricular septum consists of an inferior muscular and superior membranous portion and is extensively innervated with conducting cardiomyocytes.

The membranous portion, which is close to the atrioventricular node, is most commonly affected in adults and older children in the United States.[1] It is also the type that will most commonly require surgical intervention, comprising over 80% of cases.[2]

CHD: Congenital heart disease is a general term for a range of birth defects that affect the normal workings of the heart.
The term "congenital" means the condition is present at birth.
Congenital heart disease is one of the most common types of birth defect, affecting up to 10 in every 1,000 babies born in the USA.

1.Heart disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Cancer and stroke round out the top three.

2.Heart disease is an umbrella term that includes conditions such as coronary artery disease, heart attack, cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure, and congenital heart diseases.

3. Heart disease accounts for 40% of all U.S. deaths, more than all forms of cancer combined.

4. The most common cause of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD), which is a blocked or narrowed coronary artery that supplies the heart with blood.

5. The diabetes drug Avandia has been linked to tens of thousands of heart attacks. A U.S. Senate report claims that the makers of the drug, GlaxoSmithKline, knew of the risks and kept them from the public.

6.A person with both a first-degree relative (a parent or sibling) and a second-degree relative (uncle or grandparent) who suffer from heart disease before the age of 60 is nearly 10 times more likely to suffer from heart disease early in life.

7.CT scans of mummies reveal that heart disease was surprisingly frequent in ancient Egypt, suggesting that heart disease is caused by factors other than modern habits, such as smoking, fast food, and T.V. watching (inactivity).

8.A Danish study claims that men and women with thighs that measure less than 23.62 inches (60 cm) in circumference have a higher risk of developing heart disease.

9.The survival rate for a cardiac arrest can be as low as 1-2%
It takes just four to six minutes after cardiac arrest before a person experiences brain death and then complete death. The survival rate outside a hospital is less than 1-2%.

10.Sixteen percent of patients treated in Seattle for cardiac arrest survived, compared to 3% in Alabama.
