"Nothing at all my son. I just never though I would see you again," she said giving him a weak smile.
"Mother, I woul like you to meet my wife," Linc said with a warm smile as he pulled Mel beside him.
"It is very nice to meet you ma'am," Mel said with a small smile as Amelia replied in a cool manner. This is the reception she had envisioned between her father and her, now all that might have been lost. Aside from that Mel was happy for Linc. He could finally get some closure.
"You must come stay with us," Linc said happily.
Amelia hesitated before accepting the offer.----
Setting her up in the cottage on their estate they left her to get settled in heading to Striker Maximum Prison. Walking towards the private interrogation room they found Rafael sitting in a relaxed manner.
"Prison life seems to be agreeing with you," Linc said as he pulled out a chair for Mel.
"Money does have its perks."
"So what do you want. What do you gain by causing trouble for Linc.
Rafael started to laugh like a madman.
"I'll get you Mel. And this time I will make sure of it. How is you family by the way, I hear you were blessed with twins."
"That is none of your business," Linc growled as Mel pulled him back."Anyway. If you want me to stop Mel, divorce this prick and your life will be peaceful once more."
"And if I refuse."
"Oh you don't want to do that," Rafael said with a tsk.
Looking at him they knew he wasn't bluffing. Standing they left the room as he shouted, "Leave him before you get hurt!"----
The following day
"Please call me Amelia," she said as Mel poured some tea for her.
Deciding to pay her a visit just to see how she was before introducing the children to her Mel realized something was off about this woman. For a woman her age she looked old in the face but not her body as she moved around with agility. Charles and Rebecca were still fit but one could see that time was something they could not control.
"Thank you," Mel said with a small smile.
"So tell me about Linc as a child?"
"Well he was always a smart boy," she said before taking a sip.
"Yes I can see the fruits of that intelligence. He has a scar on his right leg that he got as a child. How did he get that?"
Amelia's smile faultered. "Oh that old thing. He fell off his bike once the training wheels were removed resulting in that scar," she said as Mel nodded her head in acceptance of this.
This woman before had just made a grave mistake.--------
The following day
"Linc, it's mom," Ethan said over the phone as he dropped the papers he was holding. Taking in whatever Ethan was saying Mel had stopped whatever she was doing as she saw Linc's expression change. Just then there was a knock on their door. Going to find out who it was a messenger stood with a file in his hand standing beside the PA.
"For you ma'am," he said handing over the folder before turning and leaving.
Opening the file divorce papers stared at her with a small not attached.Take your time to sign the papers and I will hurt the ones you love before you know it.
"Lincoln what is wrong?" I asked realizing someone was hurt as he sat rigid.
"Mom was involved in a hit and run," he whispered.
Mel realized Rafael was not joking as she pulled him out of the office heading to the hospital."I am alright Charles," Rebecca said as Charles asked her for the umpteenth time if she needed anything.
She had suffered a broken arm and minor bruises but was better than the doctor expected. Mel's phone rang and she answered without looking at the caller i.d."Did you receive my gift," Rafael said as she became pale. "Give the phone to Linc," he said when she didn't answer.
Looking at Linc she found him already looking at her with worry.
"What do you want Rodriguez?" Linc growled knowing it was him.
Rafael started laughing as he hung up before Linc could questioning him again.
