"You're amazing, you are." I tell Melanie with a smile, pointing my fork at her as chew my food. Bringing my fork down, I stab it into my steak, and reach for my knife to cut it.

"Why?" She replies, "Because I'm your bestie?" I stop drinking my water, my eyes meeting hers as she gives me the most awkward smile that I have ever seen. Next thing you know, water is spewing out of my mouth and onto her face as I burst out laughing.

"You...you think we're besties?" I ask back, snorting. To be completely honest with you, Melanie is my best friend, but I've got a god damn reputation to keep. "Some killer queen you are. Making me laugh like that. You're too funny, Ms. Martinez."  I stare at her, my smile slowly fading as I notice tears forming in her eyes. "What?" I ask, confused, as she stands up. I drop my knife and fork and chase after her once I notice that she is head out the front door. Of course, my clumsy self trips over the leg of one of the small rounded tables in my living room as I make my way outside.

"Melanie, what's wrong?" I ask her as I close the door behind me, "Os it something I had said?" Mel stops walking as she gets to the small gate in front of my flat, before turning around to face me, uncrossing her arms. I walk over to her, stoping only a few inches away from her, and I bring my right hand up to her face, wiping away a tear.

Mel slaps my hand away then pushes me back, causing me to stumble and almost fall. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" She screams, more tears start to stream down her cheeks.

"What would I be kidding you about, Mel? Bloody hell! Have you gone mental?" I reply, starting to raise my voice.

"God damnit, Daniel." She chuckles slightly under her breath, "I knew you were hard headed, but I didn't know you flat out stupid!"

"Why don't you tell me what the fuck I said?!" Now I start shouting. I notice the birds fall silent and the trees stop stirring. Everything is drop dead silent except for the two of us.

"YOU JUST TOLD ME WE WEREN'T BEST FRIENDS!"

"Are you joking?" I chuckle, "You're mad at me for not calling you my best friend? God, you are so fucking childish, Mel!"

"IF IT WASN'T FOR ME YOU WOULD BE FUCKING DEAD YEARS AGO, SMITH!" Her voice cracks and tears fall from her cheeks onto the cement walkway.

I stand frozen, my eyes stinging from tears brimming my eyelids as I consider the thought that I would be dead without her. I wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have a funeral. I would have no one that loves me. I would be left that forest, on the bench, the snow slowly sprinkling upon me as my limp body lay there among the silence.

"YOU WOULD HAVE BLED OUT IF I HADN'T GONE INTO THAT DAMN FOREST. YOU WOULD BE GONE AND I WOULD MOST LIKELY BE SITTING ALONE WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO COME ALONG SO THAT I WOULD BE LOVED AND CARED ABOUT." She screams at me and turns around to face the gate once more, placing her hands on it.

Suddenly, I feel like screaming as the silence tears away at my insides. I break out into tears. As Mel unlocks the gate.

"Damn you, Daniel. Damn you." Melanie steps out of the gate, and just before she lets go of it, I rush over, taking her hand in mine.

"Melanie," I say thought the tears, "Melanie, please stay. You have no idea how much you mean to me. I sorry for lying to you. You are my best friend. You're like the sister I never had and nothing could ever change that. Never ever. Now please, come back inside with me."

Later that day I finally built up the courage to go to the cafe, with my laptop, to go talk to Kyle. It didn't matter if he was taken or not; as long as we became friends. Not sure if it was his shift or not, I walk into the cafe, search for him behind the counter over the sea of people in front of me.

Noticing him, I walk over to one of the tables, pull out a chair, and sitting down, opening up my laptop.

Suddenly, in the corner of my eye, I notice someone standing next to me. I manage to tear my eyes away from the screen to see that it's Kyle. My hands begin to sweat and my fave begins to burn.

"Hey," he finally says with a small smile; his eyes look at my computer screen then back up at me, his smile growing bigger. "Dude! Is that UNDERTALE?!" He questions me in an exciting tone. I look up at him from my laptop with a smirk.

"Hell ya, dude. Who's your favorite character?"

"The all mighty Papyrus!" Kyle replies in a voice typically what Papyrus would sound like. I chuckle under my breathe and nod.

"Mine is Sans. Sans is the bomb diggity, mate." I tell him in a gangster-like tone as I hold my hands up in the form of two peace signs.

"Bomb diggity?" Kyle repeats, raising an eyebrow.

"You heard me, - "

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMIGO!" Naomi shouts from the other side of the cafe. My eyes fall away from Kyle's gaze and over to Naomi whom is now running towards us.

"Wait, it's your birthday?!" I ask, surprised, whilst looking back over at him.

Kyle hums and nods, "Yup. I'm 28 today. 1988. The best year in the existence of this rubbish planet. February 5, 1988 should be in history books, I tell ya." Kyle's shpeel is suddenly interrupted by an over excited Naomi colliding into him with a running hug.

Naomi looks up at him with a huge smile on her face. "I got you a little somethin' somethin'." My eyes trail down to her left hand as she reaches into her jacket pocket, pulling out a small red box with a small silver ribbon made out of silk tied around it, keeping the box sealed.

Kyle looks at the box, up at her, then back down at the box. He takes the petit box into his hand. Naomi walks away from him and takes a sneak near me. His eyes widen and start to glow as his sees what's hidden inside the box.

"You didn't!" He says, looking up at her. "It's amazing!" Kyle sets the box on my table and leans over to Naomi, giving her a hug. I lean over to the other side of the table to sneak a look at what she got him.

What the hell? A cat pin?

I sit back down as Kyle starts to break their hug. She must have hand made it or something because if I got a lousy ass cat pin, I would throw it out the damn window.

Kyle grabs the box and looks over at me, "Hey..." He pauses, trying to remember whether or not I had told him my name.

"Dan."

"Ya...Dan...do you want my number? Maybe we can hang out sometime? I'm sorry I can't stay and chat, but I had plans today to go out with my pals and go to the cinema."

"Ya sure! Let me just take out my phone." I look down and reach into one of the pockets of my jeans, pulling out my phone.

"Okay. It's ... " I take down his number under new contact on my phone and insert his name as Ky.

"Hey, Dan, actually, do you want to go to the cinemas with us? We are going to see Fifty Shades of Black." He gives me this warm smile that just fills me up with happiness and determination.

"Sure. Why not? I mean it's your birthday and that movie looks pretty wicked, so, sure. I'll join you lot." I get to my feet and collect my laptop and phone. Naomi and I wait by the exit for Kyle to come out of the staff room before the three of us rush out and down the street towards the cinemas.
