I quietly walked alone down the sidewalk, bag of groceries in hand. The wind was freezing with the coming of winter. I sighed as I looked ahead of me. A memory flashed before my eyes.
"Calum no!" I giggled as he pelted me with the snowball, laughing as I tried to chase him down the slippery street.
The memory was painful to think about. I kept walking, only to stumble upon another.
"Ashton why didn't he come himself?" I glared at the boy, watching him run his hand through his curls.
"He was afraid to hurt you. And somehow thought this would be easier. He is sorry." I turned and walked away.
I kept walking past this memory too. I stumbled up the steps, wiping away tears. The house was warm and dry. I pressed a button on the machine to hear my messages. The first few were the usual. Your rent is due, Ms. Y/L/N. Your Bills, Y/n. But it was the last one that sent chills through you.
"Hello... I mean hi. Um. It's me, Calum. But you probably already knew that. At least I hope you did. Anyway, I just wanted to call and talk. See if maybe you wanted to get coffee sometime. See a movie... I know I did some stupid things back when I was here in London the last time, but call me back. Maybe?" He rattled off a number. I penciled it down and stared at it for a long time, trying to decide. I felt like I would regret this if I didn't. I dialed the number. It rang once and he answered.
"Hello?"
"It's me, Calum."
