I stayed up very late to finish this one.
I really hope you guys enjoy it!
"Better grab a coat. It's going to be quite cold." The Doctor suggested to Matt and myself. I tightened the belt on the thick and soft jacket around my waist. It was getting harder and harder to hide the small bump. The Doctor opened the door and a burst of cold wind greeted us.
"You weren't joking, were you?" Matt joked. I smiled and grabbed the Doctor's hand.
"So mind telling us where we are?" I asked, looking up at the Doctor with hopeful eyes.
"The land of the bears!" He exclaimed. I looked out into the snow covered landscape. A string of large and extremely tall buildings lined the near horizon. It was beautiful.
"Ice. They are all sculpted from ice." The Doctor explained. Lights shone from the windows. I looked around us and there we tens of large "bears". They resembled large white furry bugs then bears. They were all at least seven feet tall with six legs and four eyes. Most were as wide, if not wider, then an eighteen wheeler truck. The Doctor chuckled at my amazement.
"Wanna go check it out?" He asked. I nodded my head and together we walked out into the cold, Matt following in our footsteps. Together, the three of us walked into one of the large buildings that the Doctor explained as a sculpture showing.
"The funny thing is the 'bears' can not communicate with each other. Yet somehow they are able to work together to produce magnificent building and scuptures that practically never melt."
"These are magnificent!" I exclaimed quietly. Sculptures of animals and landscapes surrounded us. On the wall, perfectly cubed blocks of ice that have been carved out to make beautiful pictures hung. The sculptor had added tiny miniature lights some places to color the sculpted picture.
"Doctor, I will never stop marveling at all the stuff you have shown us." Matt said.
"Don't worry. Even I haven't." The Doctor joked. I smiled and kissed him quickly. He wrapped his arm around my waist as we continued.
We found ourselves on the third floor soon after. Considering that the whole building was made out of ice, I was surprised that it didn't shatter into pieces when the large bears walked through it. I sucked on a plain ice popsicle for my lunch. The morning sickness seemed as if it would never go away. The men were a little more adventurous with their food. They continued their conversation on how the entire planet worked. I stood up and walked to the open window. I stuck my hand in my pockets even though I knew full well that I wouldn't feel the cold as long as I kept my temperature up. I slipped off my right glove and watched as steam rose off my skin in the cold air. The whole planet glistened with the setting sun. Out of the corner of my eye I saw movement but the swirling colors of the air in the setting sun distracted me. A huge crash took my attention from the swirling wonder. I looked towards the sound. Something bigger then the white bears stood out a few buildings away. It was as red as lipstick and stood out as if it had been applied to a blonde maiden. Then I realized that that huge red creature was the cause of the crashing. As it ran after the nearly invisible bears, buildings began to collapse and this magnificent building was in its path.
"Doctor!" I exclaimed running to the Doctor and Matt. "There is a creature. And buildings are falling." My voice was full of worry. Immediately the two men ran to the open balcony. With one glance the Doctor turned and sprinted towards me, Matt following close behind.
"First floor! Go!" He grabbed my hand. Chaos followed as we tried to weave ourselves through the legs of the beasts. Their instincts had already told them to run. A huge crash came from below us. The floor sunk and even though I couldn't see it I knew we were falling. Everything felt as if it was going in slow motion. I clung to the Doctor and Matt. I looked up to see the beautiful ice pillers falling on top of us. I closed my eyes and imagined as if I was falling through space. I felt the Doctor's body wrap around me and Matt's fingers in mine. Were we all to survive a basically six story drop? I felt the collision as everything went black.
I woke up from the cold, something that my body hadn't experienced in ages. I quickly warmed myself up and slowly opened my eyes. Matt, the Doctor and I were saved by a few pillars that fell vertical. However, it wasn't high enough to stand. I had landed on top of the Doctor and Matt laid next to him. I heard the painful wail of one of the bears. I looked to see one of the beast. It's white fur was stained a dark red right above the middle leg, where a major pillar had gone through. The Doctor moaned from behind me. I crawled as well as I could to him.
"Doctor? Doctor, are you okay?" I questioned him, putting my ear to his chest. Both hearts were beating as I felt his hand run over my head.
"I'm fine. Just a little bruised is all." He replied. He coughed and moaned again trying to move from his current position. My thumb instinctively wiped away the blood that spilled from a cut on his cheekbone. I looked over to see Matt opening and closing his hands in front of his face. Probably trying to make sure he was still one piece. I carefully crawled over to him.
"Everything okay?" Matt asked. I knew he meant a lot more then my back and the possible concussion.
"As far I can tell, I think everything is just fine." I replied. Matt pulled himself up into a sitting position. Behind us the creature wailed again.
I crawled frantically towards it.
"Tell me there is something you can do, Doctor?" He looked the whole thing over. His eyes fell down and he shook his head. I felt a tear fall down my face. How could something so beautiful be a victim of something so grotesque?
"Can't I melt us out of hear or something?" I asked the Doctor, even though I already knew the answer.
"No, sweetheart. The ice here doesn't melt from your fire. It only burns." I swallowed hard. I picked up a few pieces of shattered glass-like ice and piled it into the center.
"We might not get out of here this way but for now you two need the light and the warmth." I mumbled as I light the pile. I made my way over to the dying creature. I sat behind her head. I reached my palm out to pet the silky white fur. At first she protested but after a while she calmed. Her eyes looked at me with gratitude, happy to be in the company of a kind soul. That look was the answer! The bears didn't communicate with words or brainwaves. They communicated with their eyes, telling all they needed to say with one look. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I stayed with the creature for hours until finally she took her last breath and closed her silver grey eyes.
Such fury and rage bubbled inside me. I grabbed my hair, pulled it in front of my face and screamed. I crawled viciously over the small space. I clawed at the wall, yelling and screaming until blood marked the ice. Tears streaked down my face. I fought the protests of the Doctor and Matt. Eventually, the Doctor pulled me away, kicking and screaming. He pulled me to the farthest corner and held my hands when I tried to fight back. Blind rage. That's all it was. Soon enough I realized that fighting was useless. I curled up into his lap, sobbing into his chest.
"There, there Jazmine. It'll be alright." He muttered, loud enough for only me to hear.
"Matt, you, the baby." Was all I could say through my tears. I felt the Doctor's hand pause for a moment but then return to the original rhythm. I couldn't stop myself. I just continued to cry.
