Okay, Canyon was really starting to freak out. Snow raged all around her, and ice seemed to be moving along the ground, as if a sorcerer had demanded a cube of ice, but the situation immediately had come of hand. Only the moon seemed to slow it down, desperately calling for the sun. The ice was like trying to resist some kind of powerful magic. Magic? There was no such thing as magic! But Canyon felt within herself that magic was definitely being tossed around - Phoenix Magic. Perhaps a Shadow Phoenix was withholding the ice.

Canyon shook her head. No way was she going to be distracted now at the silly notion of magic!

She was cold, tired, and hungry. So she had to rest, in order for her to complete other tasks. So as soon as Canyon spotted an abandoned hollow amid the snow, she lighted down next to it. Wind buffeted her winds, slamming her against the icy bark. She regained her bearings, and with difficulty, hefted herself up, the roaring blizzard yelling at her from outside.

Canyon could finally rest, away from the cold snowstorm outside. Canyon felt her eyelids get heavy due to the warmness of the hollow. She fought to stay awake, to be prepared for anything. But soon, she slowly eased into sleep.

Canyon was on a perch, watching the snow clouds drift away. She was happy - or at least, until she saw the ice. The ice still moved along the ground, as if refusing to go away. Along the grass, up the tree, freezing wood limbs, snapping leaves off branches...and straight for her. She tried to lift off, but couldn't. Her body refused to. I just want to touch the ice...No! Mustn't!...But imagine the great promises it awaits me...No! Stop it! Canyon, refuse!

But the ice was close now. Canyon, get off. NOW! With all of her might, she threw herself into the brilliant night sky. She was free of the ice!

Suddenly, she felt her gizzard freeze, then go cold.

Canyon looked down at her tail feathers, dreading what she was going to see. Ice spread from her tail feathers, slowly climbing up to her wings and head. It wanted to fly, yes. No use now. She was going to perish in the hands of the merciless Ice.

In a great big burst, flames came out of nowhere, and seared away the ice. But it didn't matter, right now. Those flames were to late. She was plunging towards the sea with no power whatsoever to lift her out of her fate. The last thing she remembered was the sweet taste of sea salt on her tongue, and a superior looking bird rise up from the sea and shot twin streams of ice water at her...
