The Ice Dragons were the first to attack. They roared their ice breath down upon the phoenixes, but the Fire Phoenixes burned them away. Water-Xs exchanged places, and rained down mini storms upon them. The Fire Phoenixes doubled back as rain thrashed at their wings, tearing their fires apart. The nature phoenixes came up to soak in the rain, and let loose all of the nature to attack the enemies. The Lightning Phoenixes used the rain to their advantage to strike down dragons and Water-Xs alike.

Quite soon enough, Canyon lost track of King Falcon Claws in all of the fights, and started to concentrate on the battle. The enemies seemed to be doubling back as well. But where was Ice Talons? He was there moments earlier, but disappeared! She needed to find him. She flew high above the battle area, and scanned the scene.

"Ice Talons! Show yourself!" She yelled into the dark clouds. "Don't be a coward to face me!" As if in answer, a strong headwind blew her backwards, and she slammed into an ice wall that had suddenly materialized. She felt the presence of something big and majestic reach for her, and grab her around the wings. Canyon felt a searing pain in her starboard wing. Ice Talon's breath felt cold, and he was taking her down towards the heart of the battle. Canyon struggled and strained against his grip, but he just held on tighter. Canyon felt a little relieved when she saw that she was burning his scales, but he just kept on going. His faced grimaced a bit in pain.

It was all a blur as they descended, and she heard the battle cries getting louder, louder, and louder...and all of a sudden, it became quiet. Ice Talons set her down on a bare patch of ground surrounded by ice, and stood up straighter, towering above her. She felt her fire melting away the ice spires above her.

"So, the great Canyon is now here." He drawled, licking his sharp fangs. "So Falcon Claws has decided to tell you my long ago, outdated history, eh?" His eyes glowed even darker, his pupils turning into menacing slits that glowed a deep purple. Canyon was silent. "You dare not answer me? As if you have authority to say whatever you want?" He stepped forward, and Canyon leaned back. Ice Talons flicked his tail. Canyon felt a lurch as she was suddenly hovering in the air. He looked at her, opened his mouth, and Canyon was thrown back against hard ice. It instantly melted, and Canyon groaned as she slid back down. He grinned, and opened his wings. She felt sharp arrows of ice fling towards her, and she ducked. Several missed her, but the majority of it caught her. Luckily, her fire melted the tips to a dull, blunt end, and it pelted her instead of spearing her through.

Ice Talons flicked his tail again, dragging Canyon forward. "Now do you feel the might of my powers? Forget my past. Remember the present. You are not a hero, as Falcon Claws once said. You are a fool to ever challenge me." He started advancing towards her slowly.

Canyon didn't know what to do, but her instincts made her shoot an inferno of fire at his head. He dodged sideways, and the inferno hit the ice. But instead of melting it instantly, it fractured it into millions of tiny shards. Canyon was just as surprised as Ice Talons, for never had she done something like that.

He looked at her, shocked and furious. "No, it can't be true! No, no! Falcon Claws, you idiot!" He lunged for her, claws extended.

Canyon aimed her beak, and breathed another barrel of fire at him. Her fire seemed to almost glow blue. Ice Talon's eyes went wide, and he tried rolling out of the way. The tunnel was too small, and so her fire hit him squarely in the chest. He was knocked out of the sky, and he crash landed onto the ice, making great cracks in it that quickly glazed over. Canyon breathed her fire up to the ceiling, and the ice instantly shattered. Not melted. She puzzled over it for just a second, then stopped as she saw the scene overhead. It was not going well.

Without another thought, she shot up - rapidly flapping her wings, desperate to join the battle to help King Falcon Claws.

Elements were flung back and forth. Spells were cast. Talons to talons, beak to beak, elements to elements. Those factors created vast explosions that rumbled, and disoriented the land around it. Then she saw something shocking.

    Her family.

Her siblings actually weren't there, but she could tell that they were inside of the Phoenix Palace. Her father was a red Fire Phoenix, and her mom was a more golden-orange Fire Phoenix. Together, they knocked down dragons from the sky with plumes of great flames. Canyon was so happy, but knew that she couldn't be for long. Ice Talons was stirring, so she fully went into the heart of the battle.

A Thunder Ice Dragon rushed at her, talons extended, her white teeth crackling with thunder and ice. Canyon rose above her, and fire burst out of her beak. It scorched her face, talons, and chest. The Thunder Ice roared in agony, sending plumes of lightning bolts bouncing off everywhere, and fell back.

Canyon breathed a sigh of relief. But not for long, for Ice Talons broke from his trance, and crashed through the ground. He rose up above the battle scene. Blue, cold, icy eyes sweeping the battle for Canyon. Phoenixes gasped, and for a moment, the battle stopped. Ice Talons roared in fury.

    He spotted Canyon. Then dove.

    The battle resumed.

Phoenixes flew out of the way as Ice Talons was about to make a death kill. Canyon tried to fly out of the way, but wasn't fast enough. He seized her tail, and yanked her back. He raised his claws, preparing to strike. Canyon saw King Falcon Claws and he parents coming at her, but she knew that they weren't going to make it. Ice Talon's claws gleamed wickedly, as if to remind her of his everlasting might. He flipped her over, and pressed his talons over her heart.

"You see now, Canyon. You had a choice. But now they are eliminated. Prepare to perish beneath my ice claws! And to be abandoned by the Forbidden!" He pushed down on her chest, drawing breath from her. Canyon gasped, clawing at his cold talons. Ice Talons laughed cruelly.

Canyon closed her eyes, awaiting for her death. She felt his muscles tense, ready to kill her. A whoosh, a slight cold...then he was gone. Furious roars met her ears, and warm fire melted away ice. Canyon opened her eyes, and gasped.

Ice Talons and his allies were being attacked by red dragons. The same dragons that had blue eyes appear in her vision. They breathed fire.
