Scott refuses to tell me any details of what was happening.
"Mom said you were infected. What does that mean?" I push, close by Scott's side in the Beacon Hills High School hallway.
"Nothing, Jess." He curves, shaking his head at Stiles. Kira looks at the ground. Malia seems to have run off. Liam stands next to me silently.
"Why would someone want to kill a bunch of werewolves?" I ask.
"I don't know, Jess." Scott answers in monotone. A million more questions run through my mind but I ignore them. I've learned how to keep my mouth shut.
We start walking out, past the crowds of people reuniting. I see Lydia embrace her mom. I smile at her.
Scott is walking fast, and I have to jog to catch up to his long legs. We exit the school and circle up by the doors. I actually feel like one of the pack. For the first time.
"Malia knows," Stiles grumbles. "She saw the list."
I have no idea what he's talking about but I don't bother to ask. He looks angry and sad at the same time. I study him harder and see vague blood stains. I wonder what he got himself into this time.
Scott looks at the ground and I can almost hear the wheels turning in his head. Scott is always the one with a plan. But right now I can tell he's stumped. I fiddle with my shorts as the silence engulfs us.
The pack exchanges a few more words, irrelevant things mainly. Well, not exactly irrelevant but things I don't understand or they haven't bothered to tell me.
Soon, Scott drags me to his car and I hop in the passenger seat. He sits down and leans against the armrest, sighing heavily. I feel bad for him. He has so much weighing on him right now it's crazy. If I was him, I definitely would have caved already.
"Who's sweatshirt is that?" Scott suddenly asks, his suspicious smile growing. I look down at myself and gasp.
"Crap!" I'm still wearing Liam's hoodie. But he probably already left. Did he notice I still had it on? Does he want me to keep it? I want to keep it. It's warm and smells good.
"Jessicaaaa," Scott whines babyishly, slapping his forehead and looking at me. "You're growing up too fast!"
"Scottttt," I mock.
He breathes out dramatically and studies the sweatshirt. "Well," He begins. "At least it's Liam. Not some punk-headed drug-selling perverted stalking creeping-"
"I get it!" I laugh, widening my eyes at him and laughing. He forces a laugh and turns on the ignition, shaking his head.
The car ride home is brief and sufficiently awkward, but I make it through. Scott doesn't make any more older brother comments, thankfully. I've had enough of those to last a lifetime.
I see my mom's car in the driveway and squeak in delight. Scott and I exchange smiles before I go sprinting into the house. The door almost slams behind me, but Scott catches it just in time. Him and his gosh darn werewolf powers.
"Mommy!" I squeal, my feet tapping the floor as I prance into the kitchen.
"Jessy!" She replies, her voice soft in my ears. She's standing by the sink, changed out of her work clothes surprisingly. I run over and hug her tightly.
