Minutes tick by. No response. He probably doesn't even have his phone. Chris is so busy he probably doesn't even own a phone anymore.

I take the time to get ready, you know, if he ever answers. I put on my dark jeans and black tank top to feel badass. It works.

I hope Chris agrees with me, that I should learn how to fight. If not, then I'll find someone else.

I'm in the process of braiding my hair when I am interrupted by a loud knock on the door. I quickly finish before trotting down the stairs.

Chris stands there, looking all intimidating as usual. I feel small in his presence.

"Hey, Jessie." He remarks, grinning. I giddily jump up in the air.

"Hey, Chris!"

"So, you wanna learn how to fight?" He asks, raising an eyebrow. I find my cheeks warm.

"Yeah. I'm tired of feeling all, helpless and whatever." I say, looking at the ground shyly.

"You came to the right person." Chris tells me. He gestures for me to follow him as he steps off my front porch. "We're going shootin'."

I giggle excitedly, jogging to keep up with his large steps. His car is parked neatly at the end of my driveway, even though there are no other cars.

I hop in the passenger seat. I used to ride in this all the time. Chris and I used to be like family, when Allison was alive. I did everything with them. And after her death, it just wasn't the same between Chris and I. We both lost someone that brought us together.

He pulls his sunglasses over his eyes before he starts to pull out. I drum my nails on the side of the window as he opens the sunroof. For a quick second, it almost feels like it did two years ago. But the feeling goes as quickly as it comes.

"So what's up with you and the beta?" Chris suddenly questions. He smirks at me. The dad I never had.

"What, Liam?"

"Mmhm. You two are in love." He mocks.

"In love?! Where did you get that?" I ask, gasping. Chris laughs.

"Scott filled me in on most of it, but I knew before. I saw the way he looks at you."

I pretend to be interested in my thumbs. Chris turns his head to me for an answer. I ask, "Was Scott upset about it?"

"Upset? Hell no. He was giddy. He thought it was adorable." Chris replies easily.

I lift my head up. "Really?"

"Really." He answers. "He said he would be more than fine if you two became more than friends."

More than friends? Are we already more than friends? I don't even know. We're definitely not 'official' boyfriend-girlfriend, but we're not just like buddies.

We pull to the side of the road. It's completely empty, surrounded by a monstrous forest. Totally not creepy at all.

"I've never done this before." I say as I follow Chris out of the car.

"I know." He replies. "So this might be a bit harder than what you're used to."

We walk around to the trunk of his car. He pops it open and I gasp.
