It's funny, isn't it, how even though you've been waiting for something for so long, you still don't know how to deal with it?
Yeah.
Well, when Nattie looked at me and said 'Us' I felt a brief wave of terror and thoughts like ohmygod I'msogulyahhhwhywouldanyoneloveme
Then it changed to us? US? There's an us? Wheeeee!
I was having some pretty deep thoughts, as you can see.
"U-us?" I stammered, shooting a panicked look at the steering wheel. Like it could come alive and help me... Oh I wish.
He nodded. "Us."
"Like... you and me."
"That's the general us, yes."
Oh so that's how it is?
"Well sometimes people pronounce the U.S as 'Us'," I retorted, crossing my arms.
"Amy, never in my life have I heard someone say that!"
"Obviously you have been talking to the wrong people," I sniffed.
"Or the right ones."
Shut up Nattie.
"Anyways," I announced abruptly. "You were saying..."
He ran an anxious hand through his hair. "Right. Well..."
"Go on."
"I..."
"Mhm?"
"I suppose we should..."
"Yeees?"
"Oh my god Amy."
"What?"
"Shut up!"
I sat back in my seat, frowning. I didn't care anyways.
(lies)
He ran a nervous hand thorugh his hair and I pretended it didn't make my heart beat faster. I just kind of loved it when he did that. You wouldn't understand, but the contrast of the color of his skin against his hand as he pushes it back from his forehead and then his eyes kind of wrinkle a bit and it's just all around adorable.
But anyways.
He was about to open his mouth again when I sat up abruptly.
"Oh my fucking god, yes!"
"What?"
"We're in New Orleans!"
He frowned slightly, shook his head, and smiled.
"Cool."
I stopped at a traffic light and checked the time. 11:47 pm. Well, kind of late but y'know. We were here.
"So a hotel tonight or should we find them?" I asked awkwardly, sparing him a quick glance. His profile was outlined by the city lights, merely a sillouette.
"Probably a hotel," he stated. "I think they're asleep."
I nodded and we started just aimlessly wounding around New Orleans. It was a pretty city, despite the homeless people and the dirtiness, with olden looking houses that I probably would be afraid to step in and old flickering gaslights that lined the street in some spots.
"So," Nattie started. "As much fun as this is, I'm kind of tired and I'd like to sleep. But you know. Maybe that's just me."
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, Nattie. God knows you need your beauty sleep."
