"Good morning, Camille!" Hodge smiled as she staggered into the kitchen sleepily. She replied to his kind gesture with an irritated groan. Mornings and Camille were not on the best of terms. Jace, Alec and Hodge were at the table scooping spoonfuls of cereal into their mouths.
"Are you hungry, Camille?" Isabelle asked from the stove. Jace looked at Camille with a satisfied smirk and a raised eyebrow.
"Yes, Camille, are you hungry?" He said. "Because I remember just last night how you were complaining that Isabelle didn't cook for you enough." His words dripped with sarcasm. It took everything she had to not come across the table. Isabelle, however, missed the memo and seemed touched.
"I will make you some delicious banana orange waffles right away!" Isabelle ran over to the refrigerator and brought out all the ingredients. Even some that Camille was sure shouldn't be going into the batter. Jace and Alec laughed into their bowls with arrogance.
"You know what Jace," He jerked his head up to look at her. "You're right! And were you not raving about how much you loved her waffles as well?" His face dropped in fear. Alec struggled to contain his laughter.
"I think you are mistaken-" He tried to speak, but Camille wasn't finished with this fight.
"It's quite all right, Jace, you don't have to keep it a secret anymore!" His happiness that lit up his face moments before was now faded into pure horror!
The smell of campfire filled the kitchen as Isabelle placed two plates of waffles in front of Camille and Jace.
"I'm not eating this!" He said at once. Camille looked pleased with herself.
"They are absolutely delicious, Izzy, thank you." She smiled deviously and took a mouth full. Her gag reflex about gave her away, but she washed it down with a swig of orange juice. Jace shook his head.
"No!" He pushed his chair back and handed the plate back to Isabelle. "I love you, but these are bloody awful." He thrust the plate in her hands and walked out of the kitchen. Camille looked at her plate in disgust. The crunch of the burn outside sent crumbs flying everywhere. She swallowed hard and held her breath. She shoveled all of them into her mouth, managing not to puke. When they were gone, her stomach seemed to sigh in relief. Isabelle smiled as she cleaned her dish in the sink.
"Thank you," She laughed. "I heard about your little punishment." She rubbed her shoulder comfortingly. "I'm sorry." She muttered after a giggle then walked out of the kitchen, soon followed by Alec.
Camille grabbed an apple from the fridge and sat down at the table. "This is going to be a long week..." Camille sighed to herself as she took a bite of apple.
