Mom?

I heard beautiful music as I woke up. It was a song for Gandalf. It told of his adventures and his bravery, saying his loss was a true one. It was very beautiful.

I heard shuffling very close to me and my eyes popped open. I was prepared to fight, even though I probably didn't need to, or possibly wasn't strong enough. I tried to sit up, but got a horrible headache when I did, making me groan.

"Shh," said a gentle voice beside me. "Rest, Jenakin. You went a very long time with poison flowing through your veins."

That's not English, I thought to myself, and momentarily felt like an idiot. I felt a weight being lifted off the plush bed I was on and looked up. It was a girl, about my age, with her back turned to me, gathering what looked like herbs and sorting them into the appropriate bags and boxes. I looked around the small room, a little shocked at how closed off it was, and noticed how close Aragorn's dagger was. I had completely forgotten about it until now. I slowly and stealthily took it off the nearby table, hiding it under the wool quilt on top of me. When she didn't turn around, I quietly stood up and walked toward her. I had just gotten behind her and was about to hit her in the back of the head with the hilt (I know, horrible plan, but I had to think of something quick) when she turned around.

I stumbled back, but still held the knife.

She was me.

While I stood, my eyes gaping, just staring, she smiled as if nothing was wrong. "Hello, Jenakin."

I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. She looked and sounded exactly like me.

Then she frowned. "Do you not know who I am?" I still couldn't move. She sighed. "Mother didn't tell you." Then her voice turned bitter. "She said she would. She promised she would." She shook her head and looked back up at me, smiling. "I have a lot of explaining to do, don't I?" She turned back around and I snapped out of my trance.

I don't know what happened, exactly. It was all a blur. Suddenly she was holding my left arm behind my back, holding the wrist of my right hand, which held the dagger.

"Don't resist me, Jenakin. You have not the strength to."

I fell to my knees, blood rushing to my head. Suddenly I was back in the bed, a wet towel being pressed to my forehead.

"I need to explain myself," she told me. "My name is Jaisa. Like the star. I am your twin sister."

Now I saw it. She had my face and features, and she had my hair color. But she had blue eyes, the same color as the elf woman's. Her hair was wavy, also like the woman's. I had green eyes, and my hair was straight. We looked exactly the same, but something about her made her seem beautiful. At least, more beautiful than me. Not that I was jealous. I didn't care about looks.

"We were somehow separated at birth. I accidentally sent you to a different world, I'm not sure how, and in doing so, we grew up apart, you in a world with no magic or danger. Not danger like this." She sighed and dipped the towel into a bowl of water, and continued to dab my sweating forehead. "Middle-Earth is a beautiful place, but this was a bad time to come back. There is war everywhere. Death and destruction are corrupting the minds of those who were once our allies."

She put her pinkie against my chin and tilted my head to the left, dabbing some scrapes on my face I hadn't noticed before. It made me wince. She cleaned my face gently and then got up again. "You've awoken just in time," she said in English. "Your friends will be leaving in a couple of hours. I'm a bit surprised you didn't sleep any later-"

Jaisa, is she awake? It was the voice of the elf woman from earlier - the witch.

Yes, Mother.

Bring her to me at once, please.

Of course, Mother.

She smiled at me. "I suppose you heard that?" I nodded hesitantly. "Good." She put everything in her hands on the table and came to my side, helping me up and to the door. I could walk better than I thought I would be able to, but she kept her arm around mine just in case.

We walked for all of ten minutes. It seemed to take forever on one hand, seeing as how I did not want to go and see the scary lady with pretty eyes. But on the other hand, it wasn't long enough. That woman unnerved me. Finally we came to a big room with a big bed and a big balcony. The view was of the whole forest community. It was pretty amazing.

The door shut and I heard a gentle voice float over to us. "Jaisa, darling?" Then she appeared, as if from no where. And her face finally clicked in my head.

"Mom?" I gasped, feeling my heart break slightly.

She smiled gently. "Hello, my sweet Jenakin. Let me look at you. Jaisa, please." Suddenly Jaisa was gone from my side. I almost lost my balance.

I wanted to punch the elf lady in the face. She looked exactly like my mom. Was she mocking me or something? It made me angry.

"No; I would never do that to you, my daughter," she said suddenly, as if she was reading my thoughts.

She smiled gently. "I can see your thoughts. You are confused, and displeased, and... angry. Your friends are fine. Why would you be angry?"

All I could do was stare. She seemed like she was actually concerned. It was strange. I didn't register it as real.

She sighed, seemingly tiredly. "Will you never trust me?"

My heart almost stopped beating. The anger and hurt was building up inside of me. I couldn't be here. Not in the room, not in this cursed place. The magic was different, I could feel it, and I didn't like it.

I have to get out of here. When are we leaving? Where is everyone else? I have to find them.

My sister followed me as I walked out and searched for my friends.

==========================

Aaaahhhhh!!!!! I know this is really short, but don't worry! The next chappie will be about two times as long! Jk I don't know how long the next one will be, but it will be longer!

Mom?! I never even saw that coming. Wow. Sheesh. I feel kinda bad. That's gotta suck. But I liked the part where she just walked out before she killed someone.

The next chapter's better! ;)
