Seattle shines in my mind like
the beam of a flashlight,
bouncing off pieces of a
shattered mirror, a
filthy paradise, or dirt crammed
into the VCR but still,
the tape plays trueIn that city lies my heart, among
the litter and the lovers and
resentful faces, so many
fond recollections in my head of
masquerading through that place,
just a couple of kidsAdventure, excitement, elation
crashing down in waves, forgetful
of the things that mattered most,
parents left on the line, and a
home away from home,
conquest through the urban jungle,
street signs and stoplights
flitting past the corner of the eye
like a bluejay.Heads spinning and eyes alive
with all of the band aids tacked carelessly on foot, bruised toes, impish grins, noises in the wood, smoky smelling clothing, breadcrumbs scattered on every crosswalk, bloody sidewalks, cherished moments, fabled alleyways, windblown faces windswept hair, setting suns, park benches, tucked away oasis, marketplaces, chasing after you, empty apologies, uncertainty, homelessness, insomnia, staircases, morning excursions, hands held, howling laughter, and bitter,
haunting silences.
