                                               Maya's P.O.V.

I knew it was my turn to enter the arena. But I wasn't particularly expecting anything to happen. I doubt Todd had the nerve to attack me, at all. If he was the type to attack girls, then he would have picked a fight with Cullen. No, I had him stacked as a peaceful and boring guy.

"No birdcage for this fight. It'll take place in the middle of the room. Maya, Todd, come to the center."

I walked briskly, anticipating Todd to do the same. His mouth was clenched, and he had an odd look in his eyes. Anticipation? Unusual. But whatever, it didn't matter to me. The end result would be the same.

Before a voice could tell us to start, I whipped my fist at Todd. It was a restrained blow, would only knock the wind out of him. As predicted, he fell to the ground, and I was deemed the winner.

...

<nothing> <mutters>

"Although Maya technically won, as the round did not start, and she provoked violence, she is disqualified. The winner is Todd."

I felt no emotion. I knew something would like this would happen, and I didn't care if I was to be rewarded or punished. The important thing was to hold out until the end. Emotions complicated matters, and I reserved them for when they were truly needed.

Guess it was time to go back to my corner. I easily camoflauged with the dark shadows, as I was that type of girl. Invisible to the average person, I closed my eyes and whisked myself to somewhere else, anywhere else.

At the creek. With a boy. He was smiling at me, and I him. I loved him so much, and I would have trusted him to do anything with me. Who knows what things we could have done together? We were unstoppable. I reached out, in my dreams, in physical matter. But contact was what flew the dream away. My spirits sunk. I recalled where I was. This was the monotonous hell I had nightmares about.

I didn't know when I'd be released. If I was to be released.

I must get through it all. I must.
