Grant Ward - Prey

Part 5

I slowly opened my eyes to a throbbing sensation at the back of my head. I winced and went to reach for my head but something was holding my wrists down. I looked at them and saw I was tied to a chair?

I looked around quickly, panic flooding over me as I realised what happened. Ward. Ward has me. Where was he? I searched the room but there were only soldiers. They all seemed to have one thing in common. A weird octopus symbol on them...Oh and they all had guns.

"Hey" I groaned and one of them turned to me pointing their gun at me. "Whoa" I shook my head at him and he walked over slowly.

"If I was you, I'd keep your mouth shut. You might just live a little longer that way" He was wearing a mask which probably hid a smile. So this was Hydra? The opposite to Shield?

"Well If I'm going to die anyway why not now" I smiled at him but gulped when the gun clicked.

"We need you at the moment" A voice came from behind me and I tried to turn but couldn't. "Leave" The man ordered and all the soldiers left. The man walked into sight and stood in front of me smiling.

"Ward" I said, gritting my teeth. "You know, you're an asshole" I frowned at him but it only made him laugh.

"Yeah, I get that a lot" He crouched down in front of me, resting his hands on my knees. I tried to kick but my feet were bound to the chair. "Now Jess, I'm going to have to get you to cooperate okay? I have strict orders to hurt you if you don't" He spoke to me like a little kid which annoyed me even more. I wanted to join the shield hate club now.

"Who's orders?" I raised an eyebrow and he shrugged.

"Mine" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pocket knife making my heart skip a beat. I took a deep breath as I watched him cut the rope? He untied me? Why? I stared at him confused, scared to move or hurt him incase he turned and stabbed me. "Now, we got off on the wrong foot but I want to give you a chance" He finished cutting the last rope and stood up offering his free hand out. "I want you to see Hydra"

"And If I don't want to? If I want to just sleep? Or I don't know, maybe go to the hospital for my head?" I frowned and he looked down smiling.

"I'll drag you around and your heads fine, just a small concussion" A small concussion? He made it out as if it wasn't a big deal. My head was killing me!

"Do I get tablets?" I asked, testing his patience. He still had his hand out to me. If he annoyed me, I'd annoy him.

"If you're a good girl" He said sarcastically and I took his hand giving in. I don't think I could handle him being annoying back. 

"So, when are you going to kill me? Or you going to teach me to kill someone. That's what you want right?" I asked and he looked at me confused.

"Jess, killing you is the last resort. I wouldn't make you kill anyone either. I want you to see my side of the story" 

"Or you want to hurt Hunter" I let go of his hand cringing. I forgot about that. I didn't want to be near him let alone touch him. 

"Ah, you're clever" He smiled and began walking.

"Wait! If I follow you out that door, will your guards shoot me? Cause I don't think I'll go out then" I shrugged and he shook his head opening the door.

"If you stick with me, you'll be fine. If you try to run then you won't be killed, you'll just be in a lot of pain and I'd hate for Hunter to see that" He smiled and walked out, I ran after him not wanting to be too far behind. As I walked out the door the soldiers watched me like hawks. I wanted to cry, scream, run...But I couldn't. It would show I was weak and that's probably what he was trying to see. I had to do this for my brother, I couldn't let him down. If I was on the inside then maybe I could help somehow. Hey, maybe I could kill Ward? Was I even capable of murder?

I bumped into Ward as he suddenly stopped walking. He gave me an annoyed look then gave me a piece of paper with a girl on it.

"That was Agent 33" I studied the piece of paper, what was so special about her? "She was once a shield agent until she was captured by Hydra. They tortured her, they used mind control on her until she caved in and followed every order"

"So that's what you're going to do to me" I frowned and put the paper down. "Why tell me?"

"No, that's not what's going to happen just listen" He sighed quietly. "A member of shield was undercover, working at Hydra's base. That shield agent knew about Agent 33 and didn't even try to save her"

"What? Why...Wait there must have been a reason" 

"Shield doesn't care. They just want to get on with the mission no matter who they have to sacrifice" He began walking again and I followed quickly. "We look after our own"

"You're the ones who did that to her in the first place"

"I wasn't part of that" His face was blank, not giving anything away. "She saved me from shield. I was shot and left for dead and she saved me. We connected instantly. We both hated shield" 

"What happened to her?"

"They killed her. Like they will you if you get in their way which you already have. You know why it was so easy to kidnap you Jess? They don't care, they have their main mission so they push you to the side and hope you survive on your own. Even Hunter couldn't save you because he needs to focus on his mission" He stopped walking and faced me. "They don't care, they don't show no remorse. They pretend they're the good guys but they're not"

"Hunter will find me, he won't just leave me here. He'll look for me and you and he'll kill you. That's the main mission and we're both together which makes it easier" I smiled and he smiled back which really did creep me out.

"So that's the main mission? To kill me?" He nodded to himself and smiled smugly. "Thank you Jess. I guess I'll have to get extra protection. For your sake and his though, I hope he doesn't come here because he'd be shot dead on sight and I'd be extremely disappointed if it wasn't me behind the trigger" He walked me back to the room I was in when I woke up. "He won't find you here. If he even comes close to it then I'll have to push him away"

"And how the hell are you going to do that" I frowned and walked into the room. 

"Well, you obviously don't believe me about shield not caring, so I'll do a test to prove it. I'll hold a gun to your head if he comes anywhere near this base, if he proceeds I shoot and if not you live. Don't get your hopes up though...He already got someone killed because of it" He shut the door and I felt my body start to shake. Hunter wouldn't let me die, surely. What did Ward mean by he got somebody killed? He isn't like that, he's my brother! He'll find me and rescue me before I go crazy and start believing ward. Hydra is bad, shield is good...But what if Hunter was lying? No, he wouldn't. I really needed to get out of here.
