Grant Ward - Prey

Part 2

I slowly opened my eyes, blinded by a bright light and I was feeling a little nauseous from the dizziness that overwhelmed me. A girl with short dark brown hair was stood over me smiling slightly. I stared at her confused and tried sitting up.

"You might want to wait a minute" She whispered and turned around quickly. "She's awake!" I heard fast footsteps approach and see Hunter stand there, relief washing over him.

"You bloody idiot!" He shouted at me and I frowned. What the hell was going on and why was he angry at me for!?

"You're really going to call me an idiot?" I sat up glaring at him. "Where the hell were you!?"

"Daisy I think you need to step back" Another woman approached with long wavy blonde hair. The girl now known as Daisy nodded and stepped back leaving me and my brother face to face.

"Yes. I am. What the hell was you doing with him!?" He shouted again and I stood up. I let rage overtake me and slapped him making everyone gasp...Followed by a few chuckles.

"What the hell was that for?" He held his cheek looking at me confused whilst tears filled my eyes. "Jess what's wrong"

"You missed the funeral" Silence filled the room and everyone stared at me confused but Hunters reaction stood out the most. At first he was shocked, then his expression softened. He looked the most confused out of everyone.

"Funeral?" He didn't know. How did he not know?

"Mum and dad" I whispered as his face dropped. "I tried to call but it never went through. I thought you knew anyway"

"Yeah I got a new number, quite a few times" He whispered shaking his head. "How"

"Car crash" The memories of the day I found out came flooding back and I broke down in tears. I covered my face but was soon embraced by a tight hug.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know" Hunter whispered in my ear as I sobbed onto him. "Oh God I wish I knew. You must've hated me" I shook my head and pulled away.

"Why did you never contact me? Or mum? Or Dad? You just left, vanished. How could you know they were dead when you didn't even exist to us anymore" I was feeling anger rise up inside once again.

"It's complicated"

"We're family!" I screamed making the blonde jump a little. "Now they're gone and they didn't even get to see you one last time because you was so busy with work!" He stared at me hurt which killed me even more.

"I'm so sorry" He whispered and began walking off, the blonde tried to stop him but he pushed her away and left.

"How about I get you some cookies and a drink?" Daisy whispered and I sat on the bed. I felt defeated and had no idea why. I had no idea where I was or who these people were, I had no idea how Hunter didn't know that his own parents died. I just didn't have a clue.

The blonde came over and sat down next to me, taking my hand in hers softly. It was oddly comforting.

"Hey, go easy on him. I know it's a tough time for you but...He didn't even know. I could see it on his face that he feels terrible. He just needs some time to process this" She whispered and I nodded rubbing my forehead.

"I was harsh. I know. I couldn't help it"

"That's understandable" I suddenly felt uncomfortable. What happened at the cafe? It wasn't normal to just fall asleep. It was like I passed out actually.

"Where am I?" I asked her and she smiled softly.

"I think Hunter will have to explain that one. Just know you're safe here with us"
